One downside of rural life in Zimbabwe is the spread-out nature of homes, with each family having its own plot and fields. This makes it challenging to provide essential amenities like water, internet, and electricity.
After independence, the government attempted to address this with the Type D resettlement model, but it was often viewed as inferior. Interestingly, some villages evolved into more cohesive communities through the "Keep" system of the late 1970s, leading to the creation of "protected villages." Many of these have transformed into shopping centres and growth points over time.
