1. *MNANGAGWA UNKNOWINGLY RESUSCITATES G40 FROM THE DEAD, SAYS A PROMINENT MURAKASHI – URGES HIM TO DROP 2030 AGENDA*
Prominent Zanu PF foot-soldier Kudzai Mutisi says President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has created and resurrected a lot of enemies for himself.
Mutisi says Mnangagwa’s 2030 agenda has breathed the breath of life to his enemies who had died and got buried politically.
“The 2030 thing has unwittingly resurrected a lot of Political Corpses, that’s how politically dumb this whole thing is.
“The opposition was literally nonexistent, & the G40 group was totally annihilated…
“Now they all have a new lease of life, lots of political oxygen blowing their way…,” he says.
Posting on his X handle, Mutisi said Zanu PF was positioned for a huge win come 2028, due to a nonexistent opposition and a delivering ruling party.
“Zanu PF was en route to a MASSIVE VICTORY in 2028 on the basis of defunct opposition & a delivering Zanu PF…
“All that has been thrown into disarray as Zanu PF is divided & those opposing this silly project are gaining undeserved political mileage.
“It’s EASY to oppose an unpopular idea. Geza, who was unknown to man until he came out opposing the 2030ist agenda, is now a hero to many.
“Remove the insults and some outright dumb statements from Geza’s group, what they are saying & standing against resonates with A LOT OF PEOPLE…
“An overstaying President ain’t welcome at this point especially one that took over from a man who ruled for 37 years… the memory of an overstaying president is still fresh, no amount of propaganda or slogans will erase that.
“A referendum if held on that issue will deliver a MASSIVE blow to this idea, it has no majority support within Zanu PF itself.
“Add to that, there are no EXCEPTIONAL RESULTS/DELIVERABLES to talk about, it’s getting worse with this new distraction…
“No sane person is interested in this conversation at this point, it’s an unnecessary and unproductive issue.
“I pray that the President moves to strategically abort this whole campaign,” he says. *_-ZwNews_*
2. *WICKNELL CHIVAYO’S WASTEFUL SPENDING AND LAVISH LIFESTYLE AN INSULT TO HARDWORKING ZIMBABWEANS... HE HAS NO TANGIBLE BUSINESS*
Social media personality Mmatigari has again criticized Wicknell Chivayo for recklessly throwing around US dollars and flying with a group of “mapostori” in chartered jets, calling it a mockery of hardworking Zimbabweans who cannot identify any legitimate business he operates that benefits the public.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Mmatigari said that if Strive Masiyiwa, John Moxon, or other business figures engaged in similar displays of wealth, people would not begrudge them, as they at least know the source of their money, despite potential disapproval of their business practices.
Masiyiwa is the founder and chairman of Econet Global, a leading telecommunications company with operations in multiple countries, while Moxon has a major stake in Meikles Limited. The group includes renowned brands like Victoria Falls Hotel, TM Supermarkets, Meikles Stores, Meikles Centar Mining, and Tanganda Tea Company.
Mmatigari suggested that if Chivayo were engaging in such antics in countries like China, he would have faced severe consequences.
*Wrote Mmatigari:*
If Strive Masiyiwa, or John Moxon, or other business people threw US dollars around recklessly, or flew around with a bunch of mapostori in chartered jets, people will not begrudge them at all.
They may disapprove of their business tactics like pricing and data usage, but they at least know where the money is coming from.
Even Chiyangwa, you may think he is devious, but you can go to his properties he build. It’s tangible.
Chivayo’s blatant antics fly in the face of honest hardworking Zimbabweans who cannot point to any business he runs that serves the people.
The nation has spent the last several weeks plugging smuggling along the our borders, making sure people pay duty and taxes. There is even a ministerial committee making sure the government collects money.
It’s a severe source of national disaffection if there are some devious characters with no known businesses throwing around hard currency like confetti in the face of so much hardship. In China, Xi Jinping would have waved his sjambok of discipline.
Over the past several months, Chivayo has given away cars to several public figures including musicians and retired football players. *_-Africa Press_*
3. *STAY AWAY FROM ZANU PF INTERNAL FIGHTS, THEY WON’T DELIVER ANY CHANGE TO THE ORDINARY CITIZEN, WARNS MALUNGA*
A warning from former OSISA Director Siphosami Malunga has sparked intense debate after he cautioned Zimbabweans against engaging in Zanu PF factional battles, arguing that such conflicts have historically failed to bring meaningful change to ordinary citizens.
“You would wish that Zimbabweans learned from Tekere to Zvobgo to Gamatox to G40 to Lacoste. Zanu PF factionalism will not deliver any change to the ordinary citizen. It will only reconfigure power & the predatory elite in Zanu, the army & business. Stay away from internal fights.”
Malunga’s statement, posted on social media, quickly gained traction, drawing thousands of responses from citizens, opposition supporters, and political analysts. While some agreed with his call for disengagement, others argued that fighting within Zanu PF remains a necessary path to political change, particularly as concerns grow over President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s potential hold on power until 2030.
*Public reaction: A divided nation*
One of the most pressing counterarguments came from Ndaba Ndabezitha, who questioned what alternative course of action Malunga was suggesting:
“My learned brother, we stay away and what’s the way forward? The man has 2030 almost in his pocket. He has to be stopped. Is this not the moment?”
Others, like Ruyedzo Mutizwa, dismissed Malunga’s stance, asserting that Zimbabweans must confront the ruling party head-on.
“Where are the external fights? We are warriors by nature (dogs of war) & will court any battle. As of now, the battlefield is in Zanu PF & we will pick a side & fight. The opposition is dead. No to 2030 nonsense & well done!”
However, many commentators supported Malunga’s position, emphasizing that Zanu PF factional struggles have historically led to a mere reshuffling of power among elites, rather than meaningful governance reforms.
Eddie Mahembe, PhD (@eddiem…) argued that ordinary Zimbabweans should not waste energy on internal Zanu PF fights:
“The generality of Zimbabweans should NOT be involved in the Zanu PF factional fights, especially on who is better between ED and Chiwenga. However, given the current discussion around amendments to the national constitution, I think we should mobilize against that.”
*Factional battles or meaningful change?*
Malunga’s warning touches on a broader question: whether Zanu PF infighting presents an opportunity for political transition or merely maintains the status quo. Historically, factional struggles — such as the ousting of former President Robert Mugabe in 2017 — have led to leadership changes without fundamentally addressing corruption, governance failures, or economic decline.
His critics argue that with Zimbabwe’s opposition weakened and political institutions compromised, engaging in these internal struggles may be the only remaining path to change.
*Malunga responds to backlash*
Facing a wave of criticism, Malunga clarified his stance, emphasizing that his intention was not to dictate political choices but to caution against repeating historical mistakes.
“Everyone is free to do what works for them. Just as we are free to warn as we warned in 2017 and many years prior.”
In another response, he reiterated:
“My opinion is just my opinion. I shared a similar one in 2017 and many years prior. It should not stop you from doing what you want. Please, go ahead.”
*Looking ahead: 2030 and beyond*
Malunga’s remarks come at a time when speculation is mounting over President Mnangagwa’s long-term political plans, with many believing he aims to extend his rule until at least 2030.
The heated responses to his warning reveal a growing frustration among Zimbabweans, torn between skepticism of Zanu PF factionalism and a desire to actively resist the current administration.
As Zimbabwe approaches another critical period in its political evolution, the question remains: Will citizens heed Malunga’s advice and avoid internal power struggles, or will they see factional conflicts as the only available avenue for resistance? *_-ZimEye_*
4. *WAR VETERANS TO GET HOUSES, SOLAR BOREHOLES*
More than 1 000 rural-based veterans of the liberation struggle will benefit from the newly launched Presidential War Veterans Rural Housing Scheme, which is geared towards complementing other schemes underway.
The programme is aimed at providing decent housing for war veterans while ensuring they benefit from solar energy schemes.
Each war veteran will also have access to a solar-powered borehole at their home.
Special Presidential Investment Adviser to the United Arab Emirates Dr Paul Tungwarara spearheaded the launch at Dewedzo High School in Makoni West, Rusape, Manicaland province. As of yesterday, eight solarised boreholes had been drilled at war veterans’ homes in Manicaland within 48 hours as part of a pilot project expected to be expanded nationwide.
Manicaland province also received US$150 000 from the War Veterans Fund.
The overall fund is expected to grow to US$10 million by June 2025, with each province set to receive US$1 million.
Makoni West Member of Parliament Dr Jenfan Muswere, who is also the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, hailed President Mnangagwa’s leadership and initiatives geared towards improving the welfare of war veterans.
“Due to President Mnangagwa’s excellent leadership, the land is now being transferred into the hands of the black majority, and with the introduction of the title deeds scheme, we now have security of tenure, which enables us to access loans from banks,” he said.
“As Government, we are finalising the vetting of war veterans, and this process shall take a bit of time so that we can ensure that everyone who participated during the war receives the war veteran status, in line with the good job that they did during the war.”
Dr Tungwarara made assurances that all war veterans’ welfare programmes would continue running concurrently.
“Together, let us forge a future where our war veterans are celebrated and their contributions are recognised as integral to our national identity,” he said.
“Let us remember, as His Excellency reminds us, that nyika inovakwa nevene vayo.
“This initiative aims to improve the lives of our war veterans, with an initial allocation of US$150 000 per province, and the fund is interest-free, enabling our war veterans to embark on projects that stimulate our economy.”
Minister of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs Senator Monica Mavhunga said: “We are very happy about this Presidential borehole drilling scheme because this programme allows war veterans to embark on different income-generating projects, and the surrounding community will also benefit from these projects.
“Although this programme may have started late, we are glad that our President has initiated it, and now we are receiving water, loans and war veterans are undertaking various projects.”
She also reaffirmed war veterans’ support for the resolution to extend President Mnangagwa’s term to 2030, emphasising that veterans of the liberation struggle are beneficiaries of his leadership.
Zanu PF Secretary for War Veterans, Ex-Political Prisoners, Detainees and Restrictees in the Politburo Cde Douglas Mahiya said: “War veterans are truly excited; the President has remembered the war veterans, and we wish for this to continue to happen because this did not happen over the past 40 years, and it is happening now.
“That is why war veterans, Cde President, you are not going anywhere because you still need to do a lot for the war veterans.
“He needs to continue drilling boreholes, building houses for war veterans and supporting the welfare of war veterans.”
Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution Advocate Misheck Mugadza was optimistic that the schemes would boost agricultural yields.
“Our province mainly relies on agriculture, so with these boreholes, it means war veterans are now embarking on agriculture full throttle, because water is very critical in their production.”
During the event, 200 war veterans received food hampers and US$200 each. *_-Sunday Mail_*
5. *HEALTHCARE – ZANU PF RETURNS ZIMBABWE TO THE STONE AGE*
That Zimbabwe's health sector is broken is a public secret, but the alarming decline under Zanu PF's 45-year rule has reached new depths of crisis.
A widely circulated photo showing a patient at a local hospital "plastered" with pieces of a cardboard box and tape has become emblematic of the collapse of the healthcare system. The country's health sector, much like other essential services, is now in a chronic state of emergency due to government mismanagement, underfunding, lack of equipment, and a massive brain drain of healthcare professionals.
The exodus of skilled medical workers in search of better opportunities abroad has left the nation severely short of specialists and trained personnel. Public hospitals and clinics, often described as places where patients go to die, lack essential medicines, basic equipment, and proper maintenance. Even basic necessities like bandages and painkillers are often unavailable.
Zimbabwe's health crisis is not new. In 2008, a devastating cholera outbreak claimed 4,288 lives between August 2008 and July 2009. More recently, between 2023 and 2024, another cholera outbreak resulted in 700 deaths, highlighting the continued failure of the healthcare system to manage preventable diseases.
The sector remains severely underfunded and relies heavily on foreign aid to sustain operations. The primary donors funding Zimbabwe's health system include European Union member states such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Sweden, which contribute through the Health Development Fund managed by UNICEF. This fund supports maternal and child health programs, with the United Nations Population Fund as another key implementing partner. Additionally, the Global Fund plays a crucial role in financing health initiatives, particularly in combating HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis.
Available data suggests that donor funding accounts for approximately 25% of Zimbabwe's total health expenditure. However, most of these funds are allocated to specific diseases rather than strengthening the healthcare infrastructure as a whole. The situation is expected to deteriorate further following the announcement by the administration of former U.S. President Donald Trump to slash billions in global health aid, including the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), which has been a critical source of support for Zimbabwe's fight against HIV/AIDS.
Healthcare access in rural areas remains critically limited, exacerbating existing health disparities. Zimbabwe continues to struggle with a high burden of infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, as well as rising cases of non-communicable diseases. Without urgent and sustainable reforms, the country's health sector faces an even bleaker future. *_-Bulawayo24_*
6. *CHAMUKA SLAMS ZRP FOR TARGETING CDE GEZA, SAYS POLICE MUST RESIST POLITICAL MANIPULATION*
People’s Unity Party (PUP) leader Herbert Chamuka has strongly condemned the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) for launching a manhunt for war veteran and Zanu PF Central Committee member, Blessed Geza, over four criminal charges, including undermining the authority of the President.
Chamuka accused the police of being used as a political weapon by the ruling Zanu PF, stating that the allegations against Geza only resurfaced after his recent press conference, where he openly criticised President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s alleged bid for a third term in office, calling it unconstitutional.
“The timing of these charges is highly suspicious. Where were these allegations all along? They are only being brought up now because Geza has spoken out against the unconstitutional extension of Mnangagwa’s rule.”
“The police should refuse to be used to fight political disputes within Zanu PF,” Chamuka said.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi recently released a statement, saying the police were searching for Geza, also known as “Bombshell,” and warned that anyone assisting him in evading arrest would also face prosecution.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is seeking information on the location and subsequent questioning of a suspect, Blessed Geza Runesu, alias Bombshell.
“The suspect is facing four counts of criminal charges as outlined; theft allegations as defined in Section 113 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, Chapter 9 23,” said Comm Nyathi.
Chamuka, however, argued that Geza and Mnangagwa, both veterans of the liberation struggle, should resolve their differences in a dignified manner rather than resorting to punitive legal action.
“Mnangagwa and Geza know each other from the liberation struggle.
“Instead of humiliating an old comrade, the President should initiate a respectful counselling process.
“Geza is elderly, and throwing him into Zimbabwe’s inhumane jails will only jeopardise his health. They should counsel him, not jail him,” Chamuka stated.
The PUP leader called for an end to the weaponisation of state institutions against political opponents and urged the police to maintain professionalism.
“The ZRP should serve the people, not political interests. They must refuse to be used as enforcers of internal Zanu PF conflicts,” Chamuka said. *_-Bulawayo24_*
7. *ZIMBABWE CRISIS CANNOT BE SOLVED BY SIMPLY REPLACING MNANGAGWA*
Trevor Ncube, Chairman of Alpha Media Holdings (AMH), has called for transformative leadership in Zimbabwe, arguing that the country's entrenched political and economic crises cannot be solved by simply replacing President Emmerson Mnangagwa. In an opinion article, Ncube stressed that while a change in leadership might offer temporary relief, Zimbabwe's issues run deeper, demanding a systemic overhaul.
"Zimbabwe is in desperate need of transformative leadership, not the routine recycling of failed politicians," Ncube writes. He emphasized that political power in the country has been largely used for self-enrichment, rather than national service, leaving Zimbabweans trapped in a cycle of poverty and disillusionment. According to Ncube, the time for half-measures and timid politics is over. He called for collective courage and a shift toward nation-building, where the country's leadership works for the collective good of all, not just a select few.
Ncube described the stark contrast between the lives of ordinary Zimbabweans and the elite, pointing out that the majority of people live in a state of "soul-crushing poverty" while a privileged few indulge in conspicuous wealth. He questioned the real motives of political factions, including the Blessing Gezi faction of war veterans within Zanu PF, who, according to Ncube, are more concerned with securing power for their own interests than addressing the critical issues facing the country.
He criticized the internal struggles within Zanu PF, including the power struggles that echo the events leading up to Robert Mugabe's ousting in 2017. Ncube sees these factional fights as a distraction from the real crises at hand - an imploding economy, a collapsing healthcare system, crumbling infrastructure, and rising unemployment. The ongoing disputes within the party do nothing to alleviate the suffering of ordinary Zimbabweans, Ncube asserted.
Mnangagwa, whom Ncube described as a self-proclaimed constitutionalist, has been accused of allowing his loyalists to openly threaten the dismantling of Zimbabwe's democratic framework. The refusal of the president to intervene, Ncube argues, represents an abdication of leadership.
Ncube also reflects on the lessons learned since the 2017 military intervention that removed Mugabe. While many Zimbabweans had initially hoped for a better future, the current situation demonstrates that replacing one corrupt leader with another from the same party does not solve the nation's fundamental problems. The only way forward, according to Ncube, is through a national, inclusive process that involves all stakeholders, including business leaders, civil society, the Church, labor, women, and youth. These groups must work together to rebuild the country.
In closing, Ncube calls for action, warning that Zimbabwe's future hangs in the balance. "If Zimbabweans do not act now, we risk condemning future generations to an even graver fate," he warns. "The time for complacency is over. The time for action is now."
Ncube's article highlights the urgent need for genuine political and economic reform, stressing that Zimbabwe's survival as a nation depends on the courage and resolve of its people to demand true change and hold their leaders accountable. *_-Bulawayo24_*
8. *RBZ HIRES DORMANT COMPANY WITH EMPTY-BANK-ACCOUNT TO AUDIT NATION’S GOLD RESERVES*
The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has hired BDO International Limited, a company registered as dormant with zero bank balance, to audit the country’s gold reserves — a move that raises serious concerns about transparency, credibility, and accountability in light of the recent Gold Mafia documentary revelations.
Documents obtained by ZimEye reveal that BDO International Limited, the firm tasked with auditing Zimbabwe’s gold reserves, is listed as a dormant company with no assets or reserves. According to its financial filings for the year ending December 2023, the company has been inactive and has no financial activity — raising the question: Why would the RBZ entrust a multi-billion-dollar gold reserve audit to a company with no financial standing?
The BDO Zimbabwe auditor’s report, dated December 31, 2024, states that the bank held 85,843.38 ounces (2.67 tonnes) of gold valued at US$223,784,913.34 (ZWL$ 773,315,086.82). However, the fact that this audit was conducted by a firm with no financial track record raises suspicions about the integrity of the report.
*A government attempt to cover up gold looting?*
This revelation comes in the wake of the Gold Mafia documentary, which exposed the looting and smuggling of billions in gold reserves to the UAE and other illicit channels. The hiring of a financially inactive firm suggests that the Zimbabwean government may be using a weak or compromised auditor to rubber-stamp figures and restore credibility after the corruption scandal.
*key questions that demand answers*
i. Why did the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe hire a dormant company with no financial activity to audit the nation’s gold reserves?
ii. How was this auditor selected, and was there a transparent bidding process?
iii. Is this part of a wider attempt to sanitize and manipulate financial reports following the damning corruption allegations?
iv. How credible are the gold reserve figures, given the auditor’s lack of operational capacity?
v. Will the Zimbabwean government allow an independent, internationally recognized auditing firm to verify the nation’s gold holdings?
*Implications for Zimbabwe’s financial credibility*
The RBZ’s decision to use a questionable auditing firm could have severe consequences for Zimbabwe’s already fragile economy. With widespread corruption, hyperinflation, and dwindling investor confidence, any hint of financial misrepresentation could further isolate Zimbabwe from global financial institutions and deter potential investors.
Economists and financial analysts warn that if Zimbabwe is found to be manipulating its gold reserves, it could face sanctions, trade restrictions, and exclusion from international financial markets.
*Public outrage and calls for independent oversight*
Civil society groups and opposition leaders have already expressed outrage, calling for an independent forensic audit of Zimbabwe’s gold reserves by internationally recognized firms such as Deloitte, PwC, or KPMG.
“This is yet another blatant attempt by the Zimbabwean government to manipulate financial data and cover up corruption,” said an opposition spokesperson. “If the government has nothing to hide, why not bring in a credible international auditing firm?”
*Conclusion: Another scandal in the making?*
With Zimbabwe’s economy at a critical juncture, the hiring of a dormant company with zero bank balance to audit multi-billion-dollar gold reserves reeks of a deliberate cover-up. As calls for transparency grow louder, the government must either justify its decision or submit to a truly independent audit — or risk further damage to Zimbabwe’s already battered reputation.
The RBZ was reached for comment.
For now, questions remain unanswered, and Zimbabweans deserve the truth about their nation’s gold reserves. *_-ZimEye_*
9. *NEW CANCER TREATMENT CENTRES FOR GWERU, MUTARE*
Two new cancer treatment centres are set to be established at the Gweru Provincial Hospital and the Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital in Mutare under a Government programme to decentralise and improve access to treatment for a disease that has become the major cause of morbidity and mortality in Zimbabwe, it has been learnt.
The new centres will bring the number of public hospitals offering radiotherapy services to four, alongside Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals and Mpilo Central Hospital.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen Zimbabwe’s capacity to manage cancer, which continues to claim thousands of lives annually partly due to limited treatment options.
In addition to the decentralisation efforts, the Government has initiated the procurement of advanced cancer treatment machines for Parirenyatwa and Mpilo.
The process is being funded through the US$30,8 million collected from the sugar tax in 2024.
The tax, introduced last year, is a levy imposed on sugar-sweetened beverages to discourage excessive consumption of the drinks and reduce the prevalence of non-communicable diseases.
In Zimbabwe, revenues from the tax are earmarked for healthcare initiatives, including the acquisition of critical medical equipment and medicines.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Child Care Dr Aspect Maunganidze told The Sunday Mail that Treasury had provided sugar tax funds to acquire essential cancer treatment machines and medicines.
“Indeed, Treasury has communicated that the sugar tax funds that were collected in 2024 are available for use to acquire cancer treatment machines and medicines for the country,” he said.
“Cancer management in the country has been largely hampered by the lack of hi-tech diagnostic and treatment equipment, medicines and other commodities.
“The last five to seven years have seen the country struggle with frequent breakdowns of the ageing radiotherapy machines at Parirenyatwa and Mpilo.
“These are the two public sector cancer treatment centres that offer radiotherapy in Zimbabwe.
“Apart from the two, there is only one other private radiotherapy centre that offers services to those who can afford.”
The Government, he said, is prioritising the acquisition of radiotherapy machines, including linear accelerators, brachytherapy machines and stereotactic radiosurgery units, commonly referred to as gamma knives.
Radiotherapy machines are medical devices used to treat cancer by delivering controlled doses of radiation to destroy cancerous cells while minimising damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
Linear accelerators are the most commonly used radiotherapy machines; they generate high-energy X-rays or electrons to target tumours with precision.
Brachytherapy machines, on the other hand, are used for treating cervical, prostate, breast and skin cancers, among others.
They deliver internal radiation therapy. This means a radiation source is placed directly inside or near the tumour.
Stereotactic radiosurgery units deliver highly focused radiation to small tumours, often in the brain or spine, in a single or few sessions.
The gamma knife is used for brain tumours and neurological disorders, using multiple beams of gamma radiation that converge precisely on the tumour site.
Dr Maunganidze said additional diagnostic equipment such as CT scans and simulators will also be procured to enhance the efficiency of treatment centres.
“After the announcement of the availability of US$30,8 million of sugar tax funds for cancer treatment machines and drugs, the ministry started the procurement process,” he added.
“The purchase of the advanced treatment machines is, however, a complex process, especially considering that there are no local manufacturers.
“The Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe, acknowledging the urgency of this procurement, has given the necessary approvals and now the tender is out and various bids are being submitted.”
The procurement process, which includes installation and commissioning of the machines, is expected to take between three and nine months, depending on the complexity of the equipment and construction of the necessary infrastructure such as radiation bunkers.
Dr Maunganidze said each of the two main treatment centres — Parirenyatwa and Mpilo — will receive at least two of each type of machine, with a total of over 10 advanced cancer treatment machines expected to be installed.
Functional older machines will then be relocated to Gweru and Mutare to establish new radiotherapy units.
“For the majority of the machines, we expect to acquire two of each type to equip both Parirenyatwa and Mpilo.
“More than 10 various machines are expected to be installed.
“For now, we intend to make the two radiotherapy centres fully functional and centres of excellence.
“Some of the old machines that are still functional are likely to be installed in the other cities, especially Gweru Provincial and Victoria Chitepo Provincial hospitals.
“These institutions are already earmarked to have radiotherapy centres in our expansion drive meant to bring this service to the people.
“The expansion drive, however, is done in a coordinated manner as this is a highly specialised field where the experts and supportive services need to be in place.”
*Relief*
The provision of cancer treatment in public hospitals will come as a huge relief to thousands of Zimbabweans living with various cancers who depend on costly services from private hospitals.
The cost of a round of cancer treatment in Zimbabwe varies. It depends on the type of treatment, the stage of the cancer and the patient’s circumstances.
Chemotherapy drugs can cost anywhere from US$100 to US$1 000 per dose, while radiotherapy can cost between US$5 000 and US$10 000 per course of treatment.
A patient may need multiple courses of radiotherapy, depending on the type of cancer and the stage of the disease.
Surgery can cost anywhere from US$1 000 to US$10 000, depending on the type of surgery and the complexity of the case.
The provision of cancer treatment in public hospitals is expected to bring the cost of the services down.
Public health expert and Harare Institute of Public Health principal Dr Amos Marume said the development was welcome.
“This is a welcome development if the Government wants to invest in cancer screening, early diagnosis, management and treatment because cancers are becoming more common.” *_-Sunday Mail_*
10. *STRIVE MASIYIWA FIRES 8 ECOCASH BOSSES AMID GROWING CUSTOMER FRUSTRATION*
EcoCash Holdings Zimbabwe Limited (EHZL) has undergone a major leadership shakeup, with Chief Executive Officer Eddie Chibi and seven top executives resigning amid mounting dissatisfaction over the company’s declining service quality.
Chibi, who had served as CEO since 2018, has been replaced by seasoned businessman and longtime Strive Masiyiwa associate, Tawanda Nyambirai.
Nyambirai, who played a crucial role in the early days of Econet in the 1990s as a legal advisor and entrepreneur, has also been involved with Steward Bank, a subsidiary of EcoCash, since acquiring it in 2013.
Another high-profile departure is Darlington Mandivenga, a key figure in the rapid growth of EcoCash, who also stepped down.
Mandivenga was instrumental in establishing EcoCash as Zimbabwe’s leading mobile money service.
Eight directors have resigned, including Board Chairperson Sherree Gladys Shereni, while ten new directors have been appointed in a sweeping restructuring of EHZL’s leadership.
In a notice to shareholders dated 14 February 2025 and signed by Group Company Secretary C.R. Daniels, EcoCash Holdings announced that Shereni had stepped down. Other directors who have resigned include:
• Sherree Gladys Shereni (Chairperson, Independent Non-Executive Director)
• Zienzile Dillon (Independent Non-Executive Director)
• Hardy Pemhiwa (Non-Executive Director)
• Darlington T. Mandivenga (Non-Executive Director)
• Michael L. Bennett (Independent Non-Executive Director)
• Christopher Maswi (Independent Non-Executive Director)
• Eddie Chibi (Executive Director)
• Theresa Nyemba (Executive Director)
EcoCash expressed gratitude for the contributions of the outgoing board members and announced that Dominic Musengi and Elizabeth T. Masiyiwa will remain on the board.
The newly appointed directors include:
• Titus Murefu (Chairperson, Independent Non-Executive Director)
• Rugare Chidembo (Non-Executive Director)
• Roy Chimanikire (Non-Executive Director)
• Nadine Gabi Levy (Independent Non-Executive Director)
• Evaristo Mudhikwa (Independent Non-Executive Director)
• Morgen Mufowo (Independent Non-Executive Director)
• James Andrew Kufakunesu Mushore (Independent Non-Executive Director)
• David Alexander Rhodes (Independent Non-Executive Director)
• Tawanda Nyambirai (Group Chief Executive Officer, Executive Director)
• Hazvinei Kapfunde (Banking Operations Director, Executive Director)
The leadership overhaul comes at a time when Econet Wireless, Zimbabwe’s largest telecommunications provider, faces intense scrutiny over declining service quality, exorbitant costs, and frequent system failures — particularly with EcoCash, the country’s most widely used mobile money platform.
On February 5, 2025, thousands of Econet subscribers were left stranded after EcoCash crashed, disrupting financial transactions for individuals and businesses.
The outage, lasting from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM, was the latest in a series of system failures that have frustrated customers.
Econet acknowledged the failure in a statement but insisted the issue had been resolved:
“We experienced some issues on the platforms that enable our subscribers to make calls, use data, or carry out EcoCash transactions, resulting in some of our customers being unable to use the services for about an hour and a half. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience.”
However, many Zimbabweans remain unconvinced, as EcoCash has long been plagued by persistent downtime, failed transactions, and delays in processing payments.
The service’s unreliability is especially concerning given that mobile money plays a crucial role in Zimbabwe’s cash-strapped economy.
Beyond EcoCash’s operational failures, Econet’s mobile network has also been criticised for slow internet speeds, dropped calls, and high tariffs.
Zimbabweans pay some of the highest mobile data and voice call rates in the region, yet they continue to endure subpar service.
Frequent power cuts and inadequate investment in infrastructure have exacerbated the problem, while the company continues to hike prices under the guise of inflationary adjustments.
The timing of these service failures is particularly damaging for Econet, as competition in Zimbabwe’s telecom sector is heating up with the anticipated arrival of Starlink, Elon Musk’s satellite internet provider.
Starlink is expected to revolutionise Zimbabwe’s digital landscape by offering high-speed, reliable internet access, especially in remote areas where traditional network providers struggle.
Unlike Econet’s reliance on terrestrial towers, Starlink’s satellite-based service provides a more stable connection and could offer an affordable alternative to Econet’s expensive and unreliable internet services.
The growing frustration with Econet has fueled anticipation for Starlink’s launch, with many consumers eager for an alternative to Zimbabwe’s telecom monopoly.
The pressure is now on Econet to improve its services, lower costs, and enhance reliability — or risk losing customers to a new, more efficient competitor. *_-ZimEye_*
11. *LAVISH BIRTHDAY GIFTS KEEP POURING IN FOR KUDA TAGWIREI AS TINO MACHAKAIRE DONATES TO HIS HOSPITAL*
Zimbabwean businessman Kuda Tagwirei continues to receive extravagant birthday presents, with the latest being an MRI machine donated by Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development, and Vocational Training, Tino Machakaire.
This comes just days after businessman Wicknell Chivayo gifted Tagwirei a 2025 Rolls Royce Cullinan Black Badge, valued at over US$1.2 million.
Taking to his official Facebook account on Valentine’s Day, Tino Machakaire announced that he would be donating an MRI machine to Arundel Hospital as a way of honouring Kuda Tagwirei.
“Arundel Hospital is a beacon of care, compassion and commitment to excellence, and it truly makes a difference in our community. As a way of appreciating the hard work and commitment to bettering the lives of people by my brother Kudakwashe Tagwirei, I’m pleased to share that I’ll be donating an MRI machine to Arundel Hospital as a birthday present to him,” Machakaire said.
While the exact value of the gift was not disclosed, MRI machines can range from US$150,000 to US$6.5 million, depending on their specifications and installation costs.
Machakaire emphasised that the donation was also a gesture of gratitude to the hospital’s staff.
“This donation is my small way to show my appreciation for the hospital’s dedicated team and their tireless efforts to provide outstanding and life-saving care. The MRI machine will support the hospital in diagnosing and treating patients with greater accuracy and efficiency under one roof. I’m grateful to be able to contribute to the Arundel story in this way, and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on the lives of patients and their families,” Machakaire concluded.
While some applauded the gesture, others criticised it, arguing that donating to a high-end private hospital would not benefit ordinary Zimbabweans. Some urged Machakaire to extend the same generosity to public hospitals, where medical equipment shortages are a daily struggle.
Here’s what some Zimbabweans had to say:
Jaque Emmanuels: This donation doesn’t in anyway help the us the very people that voted you into power. You keep trying to please those that are already wealthy. Surely the poor have no representation in this government. As a card carrying member of Zanu PF and from Wedza constituency I am highly disappointed in you.
Tendai Pezo: Amazing! When you get a chance, please extend your kindness to Parirenyatwa Hospital.
Ruvimbo Mildred Muchenje: My dad has been treated here free of charge, exceptional service.
Fambai Oscar Gwande: Maita basa Hon it will make the job easy for those working at arundel hospital. *_-iHarare_*
12. *WHITE SOUTH AFRICANS GATHER IN SUPPORT OF DONALD TRUMP AND HIS CLAIMS THAT THEY ARE VICTIMS OF RACISM*
Some white South Africans showed support for President Donald Trump on Saturday and gathered at the U.S. Embassy in Pretoria to claim they are victims of racism by their own government.
Hundreds of protesters held placards that read “Thank God for President Trump” and displayed other messages criticizing what they see as racist laws instituted by the South African government that discriminate against the white minority.
Many were from the Afrikaner community that Trump focused on in an executive order a week ago that cut aid and assistance to the Black-led South African government. In the order, Trump said South Africa’s Afrikaners, who are descendants of mainly Dutch colonial settlers, were being targeted by a new law that allows the government to expropriate private land.
The South African government has denied its new law is tied to race and says Trump’s claims over the country and the law have been full of misinformation and distortions.
Trump said land was being expropriated from Afrikaners — which the order referred to as “racially disfavored landowners” — when no land has been taken under the law. Trump also announced a plan to offer Afrikaners refugee status in the U.S. They are only one part of South Africa’s white minority.
In a speech to Parliament this week, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said the forced removal of any people from their land will never be allowed in South Africa again after millions of Blacks were dispossessed of property under the apartheid system of white minority rule and hundreds of years of colonialism before that.
“The people of this country know the pain of forced removals,” Ramaphosa said. He said the land law does not allow any arbitrary taking of land and only refers to land that can be redistributed for the public good.
The Trump administration’s criticism and punishment of South Africa has elevated a long-standing dilemma in the country over moves to address the wrongs of centuries of white minority rule that oppressed the Black majority.
According to the government, the land law aims to fairly address the inequality that the majority of farmland in South Africa is owned by whites, even though they make up just 7% of the country’s population.
White protesters on Saturday held banners referencing the expropriation law but also other affirmative action policies put in place by the government since the end of apartheid in 1994 to advance opportunities for Blacks. Those laws, known as Black Economic Empowerment, have been a source of frustration for some white people.
Influential Trump adviser Elon Musk — who was raised in South Africa — has also criticized South Africa’s government and claimed it is anti-white for years, although some have questioned his motivations. He has recently failed to get a license for his Starlink satellite internet service in South Africa because it doesn’t meet the country’s affirmative action criteria.
While race has long framed South African politics, the country has been largely successful in reconciling its racially diverse people in the years after apartheid. The current government is made up of a coalition of 10 Black-led and white-led political parties that are working together. *_-ZimLive_*
13. *93 SHOPS BUSTED FOR SELLING UNDERWEIGHT GOODS*
Ninety-three shops have been prosecuted since January for selling underweight products, as the authorities intensify efforts to curb violations of consumer rights.
The most affected goods include mealie meal, sugar, flour, salt, soya chunks, dried kapenta, in-store bread and sugar beans.
According to the Consumer Protection Commission (CPC), 289 shops have also been fined for various consumer rights violations, while 147 compliance notices have been issued to retailers involved in unethical business practices.
Compliance notices are formal warnings issued to businesses to correct violations within a specified time frame to avoid further legal action.
Responding to questions from The Sunday Mail, CPC research and public affairs manager Mr Kudakwashe Muderere said: “In total, 93 shops were prosecuted for selling underweight products.
In addition, 289 shops were fined from January to date and 147 compliance notices were issued in terms of Sections 10 and 31 of the Consumer Protection Act. Goods most affected are mealie meal, sugar, flour, salt, soya chunks, dried kapenta, in-store bread and sugar beans.”
To address the problem, the commission is engaging manufacturers to ensure their products meet required weight standards, he said.
The CPC has also launched joint operations with other regulators to crack down on underweight and counterfeit products.
Confiscation of illegal goods, continuous market monitoring and consumer education campaigns are also part of the measures being implemented.
A recent market surveillance by the CPC found that illegally imported goods, including soft drinks, detergents and baby formula — some containing harmful substances — have flooded the Zimbabwean market, posing a serious threat to public health and the economy.
The investigation laid bare the alarming prevalence of smuggled products, some believed to be laden with toxic additives, pathogens and spoiled ingredients.
The authorities believe these dangerous goods can cause foodborne illnesses, allergic reactions and long-term health complications.
The influx of such goods into the local market is reportedly being driven by porous borders and a high demand for cheaper alternatives.
Small retail shops in Mbare and downtown Harare, where unscrupulous traders are repackaging substandard goods in misleading packaging to deceive consumers, have been identified as being hubs for counterfeit and fake products.
During the market surveillance blitz, the CPC discovered that low-grade rice is being rebranded as premium Mahatma rice, while counterfeited Mazoe Orange Crush juice smuggled from Zambia is widely available.
Similarly, counterfeit Mama’s tomato sauce has been identified and confiscated in significant quantities.
The CPC also discovered that many products sold in these shops are labelled in foreign languages, leaving consumers without crucial safety or usage information. These practices contravene the country’s consumer protection laws. *_-Sunday Mail_*
14. *SCRAP METAL FIRM IN ZETDC THEFT STORM… CAUGHT WITH ZETDC-BRANDED ANGLE IRON BARS*
A scrap metal dealer has been arrested for allegedly vandalising infrastructure (pylons) belonging to the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC).
The scrap metal company — Panellink Manufacturing Private Limited based in the Kelvin West industrial area in Bulawayo was found in possession of 74 pieces of angle iron bars, measuring 1,6 metres in length and engraved with ZETDC serial numbers.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the arrest on 11 February of the company for possession of materials used in the generation, transmission, distribution and supply of electricity.
The arrest followed a joint operation by the police and the CID Minerals and Flora Fauna Unit (MFFU) Bulawayo, who conducted a search at the company’s premises.
“Police confirm the arrest of Panellink Manufacturing Private Limited, a manufacturing company located in Kelvin West, Bulawayo after being found in possession of material used in the generation, transmission, distribution and supply of electricity.
“On 11 February 2025, the team that had members from the CID MFFU Bulawayo went to Kelvin West Industries to conduct searches at possible places of disposal of the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission Distribution Company.
The team proceeded to Panellink — a company which is situated in Kelvin West, Bulawayo. The team requested permission to search the premises from the operations manager and he consented,” said Asst Insp Msebele.
During the search, detectives discovered 74 pieces of angle iron bars, measuring 1,6 metres in length, engraved with ZETDC serial numbers.
The recovered materials, weighing 360 kilogrammes were identified as ZETDC property by the company’s senior security officer and an engineer who was called to the scene.
The company’s operations manager claimed that the angle irons were purchased from scrap metal dealers in November 2024, allegedly concealed among other scrap metal.
“The detectives invited ZETDC Bulawayo senior security officer, who came to the scene in the company of the ZETDC engineer and they identified the recovered angle iron as property of ZETDC.
“The accused was interviewed and indicated that the company could have bought the angle irons concealed among other scrap metal in November 2024 from scrap metal dealers,” said Asst Insp Msebele.
This incident underscores a broader trend of vandalism targeting ZETDC infrastructure, including pylons, transformers and power lines.
Scrap metal dealers, driven by the lucrative copper and steel markets, have been accused of dismantling and stealing critical components of the national power grid.
Such acts of sabotage not only disrupt electricity supply but also endanger lives and exacerbate the country’s energy crisis.
Asst Insp Msebele urged members of the public and companies involved in scrap metal dealing to exercise due diligence by thoroughly vetting the source of materials to avoid involvement in criminal activities.
“The police are committed to cracking down on this illegal trade, but we need the co-operation of the public to curb this menace,” she said.
The vandalism of ZETDC infrastructure has far-reaching consequences for Zimbabwe’s economy and development. Frequent power outages caused by such acts disrupt industries, healthcare services and households, further straining the energy sector.
The theft of angle irons and other materials also imposes significant financial burdens on ZETDC, which must allocate scarce resources to repair and replace damaged infrastructure.
However, the collaboration between law enforcement agencies, ZETDC, and the public has been crucial in combating this growing threat and safeguarding the nation’s energy security.
Asst Insp Msebele urged all stakeholders to make the fight against infrastructure vandalism a top priority. *_-Sunday News_*
15. *CATTLE DEATHS WORRY FORT RIXON FARMERS*
More than 50 cattle have succumbed to an outbreak of Theileriosis commonly known as January disease in Fort Rixon, Insiza District in Matabeleland South Province in recent weeks.
Theileriosis is one of the tick-borne diseases that account for more than 60 percent of all cattle deaths recorded in the country annually.
Its trail of destruction in Fort Rixon has reignited fears among farmers who are still reeling from the previous years’ losses.
According to local farmers, the disease, which is spread through the bite of the brown ear tick, has returned with a vengeance this rainy season as the wet conditions have created an ideal breeding ground for the ticks, allowing the disease to spread rapidly.
Insiza District Ward 18 Councillor, Jostinah Ndondo told Sunday News in an interview that farmers are growing increasingly desperate fearing that they may lose what little livestock they were left with after last year’s attack and the drought.
“When this disease started, I had 171 cattle and in June last year I was only left with 25 cattle which means I lost a staggering 146 to the disease since 2022,” she lamented.
“If the rain continues, I am afraid I will lose all my remaining cattle. I will be left with nothing and I do not know how I will survive. More than 50 cattle from the community have succumbed to the disease this year alone, sparking widespread concern among farmers in the area.”
Matabeleland South provincial veterinary services director Dr Enat Mdlongwa on the left.
She said farmers fear that they may lose more as the rainy season is showing no signs of abating.
Clr Ndondo revealed that this year alone, the devastating outbreak of the January disease has struck the three villages in her ward leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
She said the alarming death toll has highlighted the urgent need for effective measures to be taken to combat the disease, which has been wreaking havoc on cattle herds in the region, decimating the national herd.
Clr Ndondo said they were applying tick-grease to their cattle and have increased the frequency of dipping to once a week hoping it will provide some respite until a permanent solution to the disease is found.
Matabeleland South Provincial Veterinary Services director Dr Enat Mdlongwa confirmed the recent outbreak of the disease in Insiza District.
“We are aware of the cattle deaths happening in Insiza District and we are rolling out some measures. We started working on a mass cattle vaccination last year and we will soon cover the remaining areas to combat this disease,” he said.
Dr Mdlongwa urged farmers to increase their dipping regimes to protect their herds.
The return of January disease has served as a stark reminder of the devastating impact that tick-borne diseases can have on livestock.
As farmers struggle to come to terms with the latest outbreak, the call for urgent action to prevent further losses and protect the livelihoods of those affected cannot be emphasised.
Cattle infected with the January disease experience severe symptoms, including fever, anaemia and ultimately death.
Typically the disease spreads during the wet season between December and March, with the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development estimating that over 500 000 cattle have died from the disease since 2016. *_-Sunday News_*
16. *MARRIED TEACHER DIES AT GIRLFRIEND'S HOUSE AFTER SEX*
A 50-year-old married teacher from Mutimwi Secondary School tragically passed away at his alleged girlfriend's residence after engaging in sex.
The deceased, identified as Nyasha Gambe, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Ndanga District Hospital on the night of February 8, 2025. According to sources, he had been spending time at the home of Laina Chimutsa, a 34-year-old shopkeeper residing at Mutimwi Business Centre, located near the school.
Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed Gambe's death, stating that no foul play was suspected.
"I can confirm the death of Gambe who died after a sleepover at his lover's house. The now deceased had no injuries, and no foul play is suspected," said Dhewa.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that at approximately 22:30 hours, Gambe, who was reportedly intoxicated, phoned Chimutsa expressing his intention to spend the night at her house. The two agreed, and he arrived shortly thereafter. Following their intimate encounter, Gambe reportedly began to feel weak and unexpectedly wet himself in bed, prompting Chimutsa to call his younger brother in distress.
Upon arrival, Gambe's brother assisted in rushing him to Ndanga District Hospital, but he was declared dead upon arrival. Authorities are yet to determine the exact cause of death, though preliminary reports suggest no evidence of foul play.
The incident has sparked shock and discussion within the local community, with many expressing their condolences to the bereaved family. Investigations into the matter are ongoing. *_-Bulawayo24_**FOR DAILY NEWS UPDATES*

Malunga’s warning touches on a broader question: whether
