The US Defense Department, also known as the Pentagon, said that it will slash its civilian workforce by at least 5% beginning next week.
US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has said cuts are necessary to "find redundancies" and to get rid of the "last vestiges" of former US President Joe Biden's influence on the department, such as efforts related to diversity, equity and inclusion and climate change.
