❄️ *Brrrr – winter’s here!* Are you also runing the a/c to heat your home, using your water heater more often, turning your lights on earlier in the day? 💡 Now’s the time to understand how to deal with those swelling electricity bills. 📊 Let’s first understand how electricity rates work in Israel. In Israel, there are two types of electric meters: basic and smart. Smart meters are generally installed in new buildings. If you don’t have one, you can ask the Electric Company to switch yours to a smart meter. The prices are calculated per kWh (kilowatt hour): *Basic meter:* Fixed price = 64.02 NIS per kWh *Smart meter:* 🕒 Rate varies with demand and time of day – (*TAOZ* Taarif Lefi Omes VeZman) ⚠️In winter (December–February), peak hours are 5:00-10:00 pm; in the summer (June-September) peak hours are from 5:00-11:00 pm and the rate is significantly higher than in off-peak hours. In the spring and fall, the rates are relatively lower both during peak hours and during off-peak hours. 🌟 So, here are 5 tips to reduce your electricity usage during the winter, and in general! 🌡️Set the temperature on your a/c carefully. Each additional degree increases the cost of operation by roughly 5%...! 🧹 Make sure to clean your a/c filters every two months, on average. This directly impacts your a/c’s electricity consumption. ⏲ Hot water: Install a timer for your electric water boiler to prevent unnecessary heating. 💡 Lights: Use LED bulbs and turn off the lights when you leave home! 🏷️Buying an electrical appliance? Only one with an excellent energy rating! 💡Are you entitled to a stipend from Bituach Leumi (National Insurance)? Are you a lone soldier? 🎯 You may be eligible for a discount! The savings can be as much as 210 NIS per two-month bill! ⚡ *Take note* that there has recently been a reform in the electricity service to the consumer, and there are now electricity providers besides the Israel Electric Company. Check whether switching to another provider is worthwhile for you.
