The Islamia University of Bahawalpur is a repository of glorious traditions. Since its inception, Muslim and non-Muslim students and employees have been working in the university. In addition to imparting education and training of students, successful efforts have been made in this university to solve social problems. In this regard, following the vision of Professor Dr. Muhammad Kamran, Vice Chancellor of Islamia University of Bahawalpur and Professor Dr. Sheikh Shafiqur-ur-Rehman, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic and Arabic Studies, Dr. Sajila Kausar, Chairperson of the Department of World Religions and Interfaith Harmony and her team organized a national conference in collaboration with the Islamic Ideology Council. The main topic of the conference was the role of the Islamic Ideology Council in promoting interfaith and inter-religious harmony in Pakistan. On this occasion, Allama Dr. Muhammad Raghib Hussain Naeemi, Chairman of the Islamic Ideology Council, Malik Allah Bakhsh Kaliyar, Member of the Islamic Ideology Council, Dr. Inamullah, Director General Research, Islamic Ideology Council and Mufti Ghulam Majid, Senior Research Officer, Islamic Ideology Council attended as guest speakers. Professor Dr. Zia-ur-Rehman, Dr. Muhammad Khabib, Dr. Muhammad Saeed Sheikh, Pastor Munawar Shahzad Umar, Naseer Ahmed Nasir, Ali Gilani, Adeel Chanar and other students, teachers, Pakistan’s most respected Muslim and Christian scholars and professors from universities and colleges were present at the conference.
The host of the conference, Dr. Sajila Kausar, welcomed the guests and said that this conference is being organized in collaboration with the Department of World Religions and Interfaith Harmony and the Islamic Ideological Council. Earlier, the department has also organized several seminars, international conferences and interfaith dialogues. We have to reiterate our commitment that we will work together to create a society that is a cradle of peace and harmony. Malik Allah Bakhsh Kaliyar, while speaking, said that the Islamic Ideology Council was established with the formulation of the Objectives Resolution. Since then, this council has been working towards peace and religious harmony in the society, the clear effects of which can be seen on the dear homeland. This institution also influences international religious matters and represents the Pakistani nation. Mufti Ghulam Majid, while discussing the role of the Council in promoting interfaith harmony, clarified that the importance of interfaith issues has decreased due to the conscious efforts of the Council, which has made it possible to end unnecessary divisiveness. Dr. Inamullah said that the Council has made efforts to protect the rights of the minority community within the scope of its status and the Constitution of Pakistan. In this matter, it is fully considered that all recommendations are in accordance with the Quran and Sunnah. In this way, the Council is playing the role of a bridge between the Muslims and the non-Muslim community. Representing the Christian community, Pastor Munawar Shahzad Umar welcomed the role of the Department of World Religions and the Islamic Ideology Council in interfaith harmony and said that forty years ago we were very close to each other. We have to create a society together where peace is the guarantor of our social prosperity. Senior journalist Naseer Ahmed Nasir said that the role of the Islamic Ideology Council is exceptional in terms of interfaith harmony. Bahawalpur is fortunate that the Department of World Religions and Interfaith Harmony has been established here at the Islamia University, whose efforts have established social peace. Allama Raghib Hussain Naeemi, while talking to the audience, said that the objectives of the council in the future include presenting recommendations for formulating the policies of the beloved country in accordance with the constitution of the state of Medina, namely the Brotherhood of Medina and the Covenant of Medina. Atheism is a huge problem for the religious world. We have to unite within our own religious circles so that the society can be saved from irreligion. The council will now come into contact with legislative bodies, national and international universities and research centers to facilitate research work. He presented the previous reports of all the activities of the council as a gift for the university library. On this occasion, the attendees of the assembly, especially the students, put their questions about interfaith harmony and the Islamic Ideological Council before the guest speakers. After a healthy dialogue between the students and the members of the council, Professor Dr. Sheikh Shafiqur-ur-Rehman thanked the guests in his presidential address and appreciated the efforts of the entire team of the Department of World Religions. Elaborating on the efforts of the Islamia University and the State of Bahawalpur regarding interfaith harmony, he said that today’s conference is a historic conference which is the first program to be organized across Pakistan in connection with the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Council of Islamic Ideology. At the end of the session, honorary shields and certificates were distributed among the guests and the inaugural ceremony of the newsletter of the Department of World Religions and Interfaith Harmony was also held with the members of the Council of Islamic Ideology. Later , Allama Raghib Hussain Naeemi called on the Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Kamran at his office, the VC praised the organizing of the grand event and his special participation enlightening faculty and students.
