When children master reading skills in their mother tongue, they can transfer those skills in other languages and curriculum subjects. With support from the Gates Foundation and Zenex Foundation, UNICEF and the Department of Education are rolling out the Early Grade Reading Programme, fostering learning in Setswana in the Northern Cape province among children just like these boys and girls.
