fill the following positions that have arisen in the following Faculties within the University of Zimbabwe: a) Agriculture, Environment and Food Systems b) Education c) Science d) Veterinary Science *1 FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE ENVIRONMENT AND FOOD SYSTEMS* 1.1 Department of Plant Production Sciences and Technologies 1.1.1 Chief Technician (1 post) *Qualifications and Experience*  Must have at least a Master’s degree in Applied Biological Sciences or related fields.  Must have at least 5 years post work experience in a University science laboratory or in industry. *Responsibilities and Attributes*  The incumbent should have knowledge of the basic laboratory experience, including safety regulations and aseptic technics.  Should have knowledge of the instruments used in plant sciences laboratories including plant biotechnology, plant pathology, weed sciences, plant physiology, agronomy, entomology and plant breeding laboratories.  Strong application of modern technologies in plant sciences research.  Evidence of team leadership will be an added advantage.  Evidence of resource mobilization and procurement experience will be also an added advantage.  He or she will be expected to work as a team member in all departmental and faculty activities.  Should be prepared to work with students and researchers in the department.  Oversees management and inventory of all departmental infrastructures including laboratory equipment, vehicles, office and teaching facilities.  Any other duties as may be assigned by the Chairperson of the Department. *1.2 Department of Soil Sciences and Environment* *1.2.1 Technician –ICT/GIS & Modeling* *Qualifications, experience and attributes*  Must have at least a BSc and HND in applied and analytical chemistry, agrochemicals development, chemical engineering or related field. *Responsibilities*  Candidates should be able to collect samples from variety of sources (eg water, soil, air, plants) including utilizing proper sampling collection and handling techniques.  To perform accurate and precise chemical analyses of samples.  To operate, maintain and calibrate analytical instruments and equipment.  To use computer, spread sheets and data management systems for recordkeeping, reporting and data analyses.  To prepare testing media and reagents.  To keep accurate and legible records.  To prepare and supervise students practicals.  To conduct chemical analyses of soil and plant materials for fertilizer recommendations.  To provide community outreach in the field of environmental and soil chemistry and soil fertility.  To initiate and implement research and development programs in the field of environmental and soil chemistry and soil fertility. *1.2.2 Technician (Microbiology)* *Qualifications, experience and attributes*  Must have at least a BSc or HND in microbiology, applied microbiology, biology or related field. *Responsibilities*  Candidates should be able to collect samples from variety of sources (eg water, soil, air, plants) including utilizing proper sampling collection and handling techniques.  To perform accurate and precise chemical analyses of samples.  To operate, maintain and calibrate analytical instruments and equipment.  To use computer, spread sheets and data management systems for recordkeeping, reporting and data analyses.  To prepare testing media and reagents.  To keep accurate and legible records.  To prepare and supervise student’s practical’s.  To prepare chemical and reagent solutions, extracts and dilutions to specifications.  To culture and cultivate various soil microorganisms.  To Provide community outreach in the field of environmental and soil and environmental microbiology. *1.2.3 Technician (Pedology/Land Surveying)* *Qualifications, experience and attributes*  Must have at least a BSc or HND in soil science, land surveying or related field. *Responsibilities*  To conduct land, soil and pedological surveys using proper techniques, including use of GIS and remote sensing tools.  To conduct land surveying and subsequent analyses for establishment of soil and water conservation structures.  To Collect samples from variety of sources (eg water, soil, air, plants) including utilizing proper sampling collection and handling techniques.  To perform accurate and precise analyses of samples.  Operate, maintain and calibrate analytical instruments and equipment.  Use computer, spread sheets and data management systems for recordkeeping, reporting and data analyses.  To keep accurate and legible records.  To prepare and supervise students practical’s. *1.2.4 Technician – Environmental Soil Physics* *Qualifications, experience and attributes*  The candidate needs to have at least a BSc or HND in soil science, environmental soil physics or related field. *Responsibilities*  To collect samples from a variety of sources (e.g. water, soil air plants), including utilizing proper sampling collection and handling techniques.  To perform accurate and precise analyses of samples.  To operate, maintain and calibrate analytical instruments and equipment.  To use computer, spread sheets and data management systems for recordkeeping, reporting, and data analyses.  To keep accurate and legible records.  To undertake operational activities required to fulfil the requirements of the Environmental Plan.  To prepare and supervise students practicals.  To conduct environmental sampling, data analysis, interpretation, and reporting.  To provide community outreach in the field of environmental soil physics.  To initiate and implement research & development programs in the field of environmental soil physics. *2 FACULTY OF EDUCATION* *2.1 Department of Science Design and Technology Education* *2.1.1 Technician (Biology) (1 Post)* *Responsibilities*  To help facilitate the teaching of B.Ed, Grad DE and M.Ed Biology by setting up Biology practicals.  Knowledge of preparation of Biology Laboratory is a must. *Qualifications, experience and attributes*  Applicant must have obtained the Zimbabwe National Technicians Certificate or its equivalent.  Possession of the City and Guids Part II Certificate or HND Certificate in the area of Biology is an added advantage. *2.1.2 Technician (Physics) (1 Post)* *Responsibilities*  To help facilitate the teaching of B.Ed, Grad DE and M.Ed Physics by setting up Physics practicals.  Knowledge of preparation of Physics Laboratory is a must. *Qualifications, experience and attributes*  Applicant must have obtained the Zimbabwe National Technicians Certificate or its equivalent.  Possession of the City and Guids Part II Certificate or HND Certificate in the area of Physics is an added advantage. *2.2 Department of Art Design and Technology Education* *2.2.1 Technicians (4 Posts)* *2.2.1.1 The Built Environmnent* *Qualifications, experience and attributes* - A Higher National Diploma (HND) or a Bachelor’s Degree in Building Technology and Design. - Journeyman class 1 in Bricklaying and experience in facilitation of Architectural Drawing modules using any AutoCAD software will be an added advantage. - A minimum of one year working experience is essential. - Preference will be given to applicants with a very strong experience in industry *Responsibilities*  Setting up of students’ practical sessions and demonstrations.  Supervising students during work integrated sessions.  Facilitation of Architectural Drawing modules using any AutoCAD software.  Ensure safety of students and staff in the Workshop/Laboratory at all times.  Maintaining adequate stock levels of consumables for use during practicals and examinations.  Keeping an inventory of all workshop and teaching equipment.  Scheduling of servicing of laboratory equipment.  Any other duties as prescribebd by the Chairperson of Derpartment Texttile Science and Apparel Design.  Must be able to supervise and guide students as they do assigned projects and forge strong links with industry in line with the expectations of the Education 5.0 philosophy and University of Zimbabwe’s Strategic Plan. *2.2.1.2 Design Originator ( Machinist ) (1 Post)* *Qualifications, experience and attributes*  A Certificate in Graphic Designing or an acceptable equivalent.  At least 1 year experiance in knitwear design origination and production.  Preference will be given to applicants with a very strong experience in industry. *Responsibilities*  Creates original designs for knitwear products, such as sweaters, jerseys, and scarves.  Develops and sketches design concepts, considering factors like fashion trends, customer preferences, and production feasibility.  Select yarns, colours, and textures to create unique and appealing designs.  Creates technical specifications and patterns of designs.  Collaborates with the production team to ensure accurate interpretation of designs.  Stays up-to-date with industry trends and competitor activity to continuously improve design skills.  May supervise a team of machinists and finishers.  Must be able to supervise and guide students as they do assigned projects and forge strong links with industry in line with the expectations of the Education 5.0 philosophy and University of Zimbabwe’s Strategic Plan. *2.2.1.3 Garment Assemblage Person* *( Finisher ) (1 Post)* *Qualifications, experience and attributes*  Certificate in Industrial Clothing Design and Construction or a related field.  A Diploma in Industrial Clothing Design and Construction will be an added advantage.  At least 1-year experience in clothing production.  Preference will be given to applicants with a very strong experience in industry. *Responsibilities*  Assembles knitwear garments from individual components, such as sleeves, bodies, and collars.  Follows instructions and patterns to ensure accurate assembly.  Operates sewing machines and other equipment to join components together.  Inspects garments for quality and accuracy during assembly.  Identifies and reports any defects or issues to the quality control team.  Works efficiently to meet production targets and deadlines.  May be involved in finishing tasks, such as sewing on buttons or attaching labels.  Must be able to supervise and guide students as they do assigned projects and forge strong links with industry in line with the expectations of the Education 5.0 philosophy and University of Zimbabwe’s Strategic Plan. *2.2.1.4 Machine operator ( Machinist) (1 Post)* *Qualifications, experience and attributes*  At least 1-year experience in knitwear production.  Preference will be given to applicants with a very strong experience in industry. *Responsibilities*  Operate knitting machines to produce high-quality fabric.  Monitor machine performance and conduct routine maintenance.  Ensure compliance with safety amd quality regulations.  Work efficiently to meet production targets and deadlines.  Collaborate with colleagues to achieve team goals and objectives.  Must be able to supervise and guide students as they do assigned projects and forge strong links with industry in line with the expectations of the Education 5.0 philosophy and University of Zimbabwe’s Strategic Plan. *3 FACULTY OF SCIENCE* *3.1 Department of Nutrition Dietetics and Food Sciences (DNDFS)* *3.1.1 Technicians (4 Posts)* *Qualifications, Experience and Attributes*  Must have Bachelors Honours Degree in Dietetics or equivalent qualification.  Applicants should have experience of carrying out dietetics practical for undergraduate and postgraduate students.  Must have a proven experience either at an Institute of high learning, Private sector or public sector is an added advantage.  The applicants should have Knowledge of Nutrition Assessment Methods (biochemical, anthropometry, clinical), Dietary intake assessment, Food service management, Menu planning. *Responsibilities*  Assist members of academic staff with research work, and laboratory work in the Department. *3.1.2 Senior Technician (2 Posts)* *Qualifications, Experience and Attributes*  Applicants should be holders of an MSc/Mphil Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics, MSc/Mphil Food Science and Technology or equivalent qualification.  At least 5 years experience in the food industry/government or tertiary institution.  One must have at least 5 O level including English and Mathematics.  A clean Class 4 Driver’s license is an added advantage. *Responsibilities*  Operation, care, and maintenance of laboratory instruments such as UV/Vis Spectrophotometer, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, High-performance Liquid Chromatography, and other related laboratory instruments.  Conducting laboratory and field-based practicals for undergraduate and postgraguate students.  Training and supervision of junior staff and postgraduate students and Assist in the development and designing of laboratory manuals.  Mainitaining safety and hygiene in the laboraties.  Be innovative and actice in food product development in line with Education 5.0  Asisting with teaching and research operations for both students and the academic staff in the department.  Be in a position to handle and support departmental income generation projects.  Any other duties as assigned by the Chairperson. *3.1.3 Nutrition and Dietetics Technicians (2 Posts)* *Qualifications, Experience and Attributes*  Applicants should be holders of BSc Honours Degree in Dietetics or equivalent qualification.  The applicants should also be willing to assist members of academic staff with research work.  The applicants should have experience of carrying out dietetics practical for under graduate and post graduate students.  Proven working experience in Nutrition and Dietetics sector can be an added advantage. *Responsibilities*  Nutrition Assessment Methods (biochemical, anthropometry, clinical).  Dietary intake assessment.  Food service management.  Menu planning. *3.2 Department of Geography Geospatial Science and Earth Observation* *3.2.1 Senior Technician (1 Post)* *Qualifications, Experience and Attributes*  Applicants must have at least a first degree in Environmental Science/ Cartography/ Geomatics/ or any Geospatial Sciences related discipline. *Responsibilities*  Expected to organise laboratory practical’s and fieldwork in different modules.  Maintaining infrastructure and teaching venues in the department among other issues.  Expected to maintain a register of equipment in the department deliver practicals to undergraduate and post-graduate students. *3.2.2 Chief Technician (1 Post)* *Qualifications, Experience and Attributes*  Applicants must have at least a first degree in Environmental Science/ Cartography/ Geomatics/ or any Geospatial Sciences related discipline. *Responsibilities*  Expected to provide the technical department in organising laboratory practicals and fieldwork in different modules.  The work involves providing leadership in maintenance of infrastructure and teaching venues among other issues.  Responsible for maintaining the asset register for equipment in the department and organise the other technicians in the delivery of practicals to undergraduate and post- graduate students. *3.2.3 Department of Biotechnology and Biochemistry* *3.2.4 Technician (10 Posts)* *Qualifications, Experience and Attributes*  At least a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Biochemistry, Biological Sciences or Chemistry.  Applicants should have a strong background in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics.  Have a minimum of two years relevant experience working in a Science Laboratory or in an academic research institution.  Be computer literate. *Responsibilities*  Ability to run practical’s in the biotechnology and biochemistry laboratory.  Preparation and setting up of practical’s for Medical and Science classes, Participating in research activities, Procuring of laboratory equipment and chemicals, Care and maintenance of chemical stores and laboratory equipment, Analysis of samples for both research and consultancy and any other duties assigned by the Chief Technician. *4 FACULTY OF VETERINARY SCIENCES* *4.1 Department of Veterinary Pathobiology* *4.1.1 Technologists (Pathology, Parasitology& Bacteriology) (3 Posts)* *Qualifications, Experience and Attributes*  Applicants should be a holder of a degree in Veterinary Technology or Diploma in Medical laboratory technology with specialization in the relevant area or a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences (HBMLS) Degree, BSc in Biotechnology, BSc in Biological Sciences, or equivalent from reputable institution recognised by the University of Zimbabwe.  A minimum of one years’ working experience in a Veterinary or Medical diagnostic or research laboratory environment is essential.  Relevant experience in the field of Veterinary Science would be a distinct advantage.  A background of Laboratory Quality Management System implementation would be an added advantage. *Responsibilities*  The successful candidate would be required to undertake diagnostic work, organise student practicals and undertake research investigations. *4.2 Department Clinical Veterinary Sciences* *4.2.1 Chief Technologist (1 Post)* *Qualifications, Experience and Attributes*  Candidates should have leadership and managerial qualities, highly motivated and possession of a specialist Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology, preferably in clinical chemistry of haematology and blood transfusion.  Must have at least 5 years’ relevant experience post specialist diploma in qualification. Responsibilities  Successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day running of the Department(as assigned by the Chairperson)  Preparation of Annual Financial Reports, department non-academic reports, vehicle and security reports, inventory reports controlling expenditure, buying all requirements for the department, performance appraisals and supervision of all non- academic staff and any other duties as assigned by the Chairperson *4.3 Department of Veterinary Biosciences* *4.3.1 Chief Technician (1 Post)* *Qualifications, Experience and Attributes*  Applicants should have at least a Master of Science degree in, Applied Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology and a foundation degree in related biological sciences.  Five Ordinary Level passes including Mathematics and English Language.  A minimum of five years working experience in a research laboratory is essential.  Be highly self-motivated.  The successful candidate will be required to run the Animal Welfare Laboratory in the Department of Preclinical Veterinary Studies. *Responsibilities*  Smooth running of the technical and practical aspects of the department for Research and Development, industrialization, teaching and learning activities.  Ensures adequate supply of consumables to all the disciplines department, namely, Biochemistry, Physiology, Gross Anatomy, Histology & Embryology as well as Animal Handling and Welfare.  The planning, procurement, storage, security and stock control will be carried out in close liaison with the Senior Technicians of each discipline.  The roles of the Chief Technicians include overseeing the community outreach programs of the department. *4.3.2 Technician Physiology (2 Posts)* *Qualifications, Experience and Attributes*  Applicants should have a City and Guilds Part II Certificate in Biological Sciences an advanced Diploma in Science Technology.  A degree in Biological Sciences or Biotechnology can also be considered. *Responsibilities*  Required to run the Physiology laboratories in the department of Veterinary Biosciences. *4.3.3 Technician Biochemistry (3 Posts)* *Qualifications, Experience and Attributes*  Applicants should have a City and Guilds Part II Certificate in Chemistry and Biochemistry/Biological Sciences an advanced Diploma in Science Technology.  A degree in Biochemistry, Biological Sciences or Biotechnology can also be considered. *Responsibilities*  Required to run the Molecular Diagnostic and Veterinary Bioengineering laboratories in the department of Veterinary Biosciences. *4.3.4 Technician Biotechnology Platform (2 Posts)* *Qualifications, Experience and Attributes*  Applicants should have a City and Guilds Part II Certificate in Chemistry and Biochemistry/Biological Sciences an advanced Diploma in Science Technology.  A degree in Biochemistry, Biological Sciences or Biotechnology can also be considered. *Responsibilities*  Required to run the Molecular Diagnostic and Veterinary Bioengineering laboratories in the Department of Veterinary Biosciences. *TO APPLY* All applications will be treated in the strictest confidence.
