MEGA RICH SIMBA WATCH AS POOR DYNAMOS CELEBRATE AND DANCE IN RAIN `MATCH REPORT` Simba Bhora 1 (Mauchi 47') Dynamos 1 (Mandivei 87') `[Extra Time]` DYNAMOS WON 5-3 ON PENALTIES Dynamos secured the first silverware of the season after reversing another certain defeat in a cup final, at a rain-soaked Rufaro Stadium pitch this Saturday afternoon and DeMbare DotComs was present to report it for your pleasure. The season opener, which pits the league winners against the knockout champions, saw Dynamos face off against Simba Bhora this year. Many Zimbabwean football pundits gave Dynamos little chance of winning, with some stating that this hastily assembled team was not competitive. To exacerbate the situation, Dynamos' preparations were marred by chaos, including training boycotts, whereas Simba Bhora, in stark contrast, were indulged and even undertook a trip to South Africa to engage foreign teams as part of their preparations, while Dynamos had to settle for matches against local division one clubs. Simba Bhora made a promising start, but Dynamos soon showed their mettle, with DeMbare displaying resilience as they weathered a tense moment sparked by Blessing Moyo's corner, which Jalai managed to head clear from Ndereki's attempt. Both teams posed a threat on set pieces, with a slippery pitch following the pre-match rains, tackles were being made aggressively by both sides. Following half-chances for both sides, with players either shooting wide or weakly at goal, the best opportunity to break the deadlock only materialized after 38 minutes, albeit fortuitously, when the ball ricocheted back to Chikona, affording him a one-on-one encounter with Simba Bhora goalkeeper Mateyaunga; however, the keeper emerged victorious, punching the ball into Chikona's path, only for the Dynamos player to immediately return it to the keeper. Dynamos requiring a score before the halftime break then had Nyahwa's header cleared off the line by Mauchi with Mateyaunga scrambling. However, moments before the half-time whistle, Kadonzvo was sent through by Dziwo, but Mateyaunga came out on top, saving another one-on-one opportunity. Following the break, Dynamos took time to regain their composure, and Simba promptly earned a corner. Upon delivery, the towering defender Mauchi adeptly twisted midair, planting an exceptional header past Tafiremutsa to break the deadlock. DeMbare took time to respond, but when they did, they were a pleasure to watch. A Chinyerere cross was punched straight into onrushing Alexander Mandinyenya, but the Dynamos striker struggled to position his body for a finish and ultimately collided with the Simba goalkeeper. Just after the hour mark Nyanhi committed a foul by man handling and shirt tug on Adyemang from outside and into the penalty box and the referee pointed to the spot. However despite sending Mateyaunga the wrong side Valentine Kadonzvo placed his penalty attempt wide. Dynamos did not allow the missed penalty kick to affect their pursuit of an equalizer, as ten minutes later Chikona's outstanding effort struck the crossbar with Mateyaunga well beaten Little Enasio Perezo Jnr showcased his exceptional ball control, revitalizing the Vietnam stand, which ultimately benefited the team. With three minutes remaining, a foul was committed against Perezo, resulting in a free kick for Dynamos midway inside Simba's half. Chiwunga delivered a lofted pass into the crowded Simba Bhora box, where Dzvinyai cushioned a header back to his unmarked defensive partner, Mandivei. Mandivei subsequently scored with a simple side-footed finish, leveling the score for Dynamos. Just then the heavens opened and a heavy downpour of rain affected play, with the match proceeding into extra time. The thirty minutes of extra time failed to separate the well-resourced outfit, who had trained abroad, from the under-resourced Dynamos, who were competing at 'potato fields' of Baghdad Stadium and Rudhaka Stadium. Dynamos were flawless from the spot with Chiwunga, Jalai, Dzvinyai, Mandivei and Gwatidzo all scoring, while Blessing Moyo, Tafa and Tigere scored, but defender Nyanhi had his penalty saved by Tafiremutsa, securing the win for Dynamos. This season is off to a promising start, filling both players and fans with a renewed sense of excitement and anticipation for what's to come.
