We, the Medical College Kolkata Residents' Doctors Association (MCKRDA), strongly condemn and oppose the targeted harassment of resident doctors from various medical colleges in West Bengal who actively participated in the Abhaya Justice Movement. It is alarming and deeply concerning that doctors who stood for justice with utmost sincerity and integrity are now facing undue scrutiny and mental pressure through repeated police summons over fundraising activities.
In particular, Dr. Shubhadeep Sardar and Dr. Prodipto Mondal, who were officially and unanimously entrusted with managing the funds of MCKRDA at their own authority through a General Body Meeting resolution, are being repeatedly called for questioning by police from different stations. We strongly denounce such harassment of our fellow resident doctors.
The funds raised for Abhaya Movement were transparently utilized for legitimate and logistical purposes directly associated with the sponatenous movement without any motive or intention and with due records and these interrogations appear to be a deliberate attempt to malign the movement as well as the doctors who fought for justice.
Forcing doctors to appear at police stations during duty hours, disrupting patient care, and causing mental distress is unacceptable and higly deplorable. MCKRDA condemns these actions and will take legal steps to challenge this harassment.
MCKRDA stands in solidarity with all our fellow residents and remain committed to upholding justice and ethical medical practice.
