In 2011, I applied for CA articleship in one of the most sought CA firms amongst students in Indore, India. I remember my interview round with a junior partner where he asked me about then AS 16 - Accounting for borrowing cost and I literally nailed it upside down. He was impressed and I was sure of getting in, as the name partner round is usually a formal introduction and nothing else. Here comes the name partner, he started asking me about my family, my father's business, do we have our own house. Do we own a car? This I found a bit weird, but politely answered each of his questions without losing the smile. In the end, he told me "Sorry, we can't hire you". I asked if he can give me feedback on the areas in which I should improve.
