On this day, 01 March 1260 CE, the Mongol forces under the command of Kitbuga captured the Ayyubid city of Damascus. The last Ayyubid Emir of Aleppo and Damascus, An-Nasir Yusuf was captured and later executed by the Mongols. Kitbuga was the lieutenant of Hulagu Khan.
