So let’s celebrate with 7 contrarian & brutal lessons I’ve learned from him Almost 20 years ago I had the privilege of meeting this great man. I could share 45 hardcore lessons, but here are just 7 from a dear close friend & my first mentor: 1: If you make a pound, you keep 20%. Maybe 50% if you’re lucky. 10% if you’re not. But if you save a pound; you save the whole pound. So be ruthless with cost savings because you get up to 5x more in your pocket 2: All money that you save/don’t waste, is not just for today, it’s compounded over decades & small amounts become VERY large amounts over time 3: Boring is good. Find something that works, drill it consistently, & get so good it becomes boring. Then sit on your hands, don’t get distracted, & do it for 10 years plus. Then you can’t fail to be rich 4: Most things take twice as long & cost twice as much; be smart & realistic about timeframes. However, once you’re good, it’s really hard for others to catch you up because we all ‘pay our entrance fee’ when it’s toughest at the start 5: Trust, but verify. Most people have their own motives, so always do your research & check backgrounds, stories & pitches. The devil is in the detail & the most prepared party usually wins 6: You can always negotiate more & better. Be patient in negotiations. Be prepared to walk away from a deal, & you’ll surprise yourself with how much you can save & make after a few rounds of no’s 7: Think of every decision; money made & money saved as a 10 to 20 year decision, expanded over the long term. Then you will think about today’s decisions very differently. There is no get rich quick, only get rich long with consistency & compounding.
