*Taraba First Lady Champions Family Courts to Combat GBV and Protect Child Rights*
Her Excellency, Mrs. Agyin Kefas, wife of Taraba State Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas, has spearheaded the swift approval for the establishment of Family Courts across Taraba State.
This initiative, aligned with the Taraba State Child Rights Law, marks a significant stride in combating Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and safeguarding children's rights.
Following a high-level engagement with the Taraba State Judiciary, Mrs. Kefas secured the immediate endorsement of the Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Filibus Joel Agya, paving the way for Family Courts in all sixteen local government areas.
These specialized courts, to be led by Hon. Justice Clara J. Kataps, will provide a dedicated legal framework for handling cases related to child protection, domestic violence, and family welfare.
Mrs. Kefas’ advocacy underscores her commitment to fostering a safer and more just society for vulnerable groups by ensuring legal mechanisms are in place to effectively address issues affecting women and children.
This development is expected to enhance access to justice for survivors of domestic abuse, expedite legal proceedings on family-related cases, and reinforce the state’s commitment to upholding human rights.
With this approval, Taraba State is setting a precedent in the Northeast, becoming a model for other states aiming to strengthen family and child rights protections through dedicated judicial structures.
