*CBN Orders Immediate Resignation of Bank Directors with Non-Performing Insider Loans*
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has ordered bank directors with non-performing insider-related loans to resign immediately.
This directive, issued by Adetona Adedeji, Acting Director of Banking Supervision, aims to address financial mismanagement and protect depositors' funds.
*Immediate Resignation:* Directors with non-performing insider loans must step down from their positions.
*Loan Remediation:* Banks must initiate immediate recovery of these loans by enforcing collateral agreements, including seizing shareholdings of affected directors.
*Compliance with BOFIA 2020:* Banks must regularize insider-related facilities exceeding statutory limits within 180 days. Individual director loans should not exceed 5% of the bank's paid-up capital, while total insider loans must not surpass 10%.
The CBN's action is designed to enhance accountability, prevent financial misconduct, and maintain stability in the banking sector.
