*Valedictory Speech at Federal University Oye-Ekiti 9th Convocation Ceremony on February 21, 2025 by Adepoju David Ayomide, The Best Graduating Student 2023/2024.* _Distinguish Ladies and Gentlemen._ Good morning. "A dream does not become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination, and hard work." These words by Colin Powell resonate deeply with us today, as we gather here not just to celebrate a ceremony, but also to mark the culmination of years of resilience, sacrifice, and unwavering pursuit of excellence. I am honored to stand before you as the valedictorian of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti’s 9th Convocation. I acknowledge and return all glory to God whose grace has been my sufficiency. I, David Adepoju, standing before you to read the valedictory speech is a testament that Jesus is worthy to be praised. This is not merely a personal achievement but a reflection of the collective effort of the remarkable individuals seated here today most especially our dedicated lecturers and our ever-supportive families. Today is our day, and we celebrate not just an ending but also the exciting beginning of a new journey. First, let me start by appreciating and evangelizing the laudable achievements made by this institution under the guidance of our esteemed Vice Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fashina because at the heart of every great institution is visionary leadership. Federal University Oye-Ekiti has experienced remarkable growth and transformation. His tenure has been nothing short of extraordinary. Under the leadership of our Vice Chancellor, no fewer than 156 New projects have been commissioned in the last 4 years, 2169 publications have been published in reputable journals, 30 new lecture halls with the state-of-the art laboratories and office spaces across both Oye and Ikole campuses. At the commencement of this convocation ceremony, 8 new projects were commissioned including the Fasshina Conference Centre. Also, Research grants have flowed like fresh palm wine, competitions have been conquered, and new academic programs have been introduced faster than we could say “ABC”. This institution has created opportunities that have pushed students to achieve the impossible, and I stand here as proof, having been a proud recipient of the prestigious MTN Foundation Scholarship in 2023. Dear Vice Chancellor, I am pleased to experience my studentship under your leadership. However, it is not just about past achievements; it is about the future we have ahead. FUOYE is not just graduating students; it is unleashing a battalion of innovative leaders into the world. This moment is more than a ceremony; it is the fulfillment of a dream. I came to Federal University Oye-Ekiti with aspirations, but what I have gained here has exceeded even my boldest expectations. This institution did not just provide me with an education; it shapened my mindset, refined my abilities, and instilled in me the values that will guide my journey beyond these walls. The countless lectures, the rigorous research, the challenges that seemed insurmountable prepared me for something greater. However, as I stand here, I realize that this is not an endpoint but a launching pad. We are not merely concluding a chapter. We are stepping into a future to lead, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to the world. The lessons we have learned, the resilience we have built, and the character we have developed will be the foundation upon which we build our next achievements. To my fellow graduates, today is a testament to our resilience, our grit, and our ability to survive even the toughest situations—including those days when our only source of strength was a well-soaked bowl of “garri” mixed with sugar and groundnut (if found). We have woken up earlier trying to pick up the bus at Idofin, School Junction and School gate. We have endured 7 a.m. lectures that felt like midnight meetings, rushed to submit assignments and faced the terror of lecturers who reminded us "Google does not have all the answers." However, through it all, we emerged victorious. Today, we do not just celebrate a certificate. We celebrate the sleepless nights, the sacrifices, and the unshakable spirit that got us here. However, let us remember that this is not the finish line. It is the starting block of something greater. The world is waiting for us, not just as graduates, but also as innovators, problem-solvers, and trailblazers. We are stepping into industries that need fresh ideas, organizations that need leadership, and societies that need transformation. Wherever we go, let us carry the FUOYE spirit of excellence, push boundaries, challenge norms, and create solutions that matter. The world may not yet know our names, but soon, they will not be able to ignore us. No achievement is ever truly individual, and today would not have been possible without the guidance and support of many incredible people. To my Head of Department, Professor L.S. Akinola, your leadership and dedication have created an environment where excellence thrives. I am grateful for the solid academic foundation you have built for us. A special appreciation to my supervisor and level adviser, Dr. C.O. Mmaduakor, for your unwavering mentorship, patience, and encouragement throughout my academic journey. To all my lecturers, Mr Fatai, Dr. Ajisope, Dr Salaudeen, Professor Olorunsola, Professor Adeyefa, Dr. Udoye, Professor Abolarin, Mr. Ajibade and Mr. Aiyetan your tireless efforts, rigorous training, and commitment to our growth have shaped us into the scholars we are today. I also appreciate Director of ICAMMDA, Professor Emmanuel Afolabi Bakare, for his impact in my life during my three months internship at the centre. To my parents, Mr and Mrs Samuel Adepoju, words will never be enough to express my gratitude. Your love, sacrifices, and prayers have been my greatest strength. Through every challenge, you stood by me, believing in my dreams even before I fully understood them myself. This success is as much yours as it is mine. Finally, to my course mates, friends, CACCF family, a citadel where God raises giants and giantesses, and FJCF family, thank you for the shared struggles, the support, and the moments that made this journey unforgettable. You have all been an essential part of this success story. Finally, as we step beyond these gates into a world brimming with challenges and opportunities, let us carry the spirit of innovation and character that defines Federal University Oye-Ekiti. We are not just graduates; we are trailblazers, problem-solvers, and the future of our nation. Let us go forth and lead with excellence, break barriers, and redefine possibilities. In addition, when history looks back at the Class of 2024, it will be remembered for greatness! Congratulations, graduates—the world is waiting for us.
