*🚨 Courtroom Clash: Journalism vs. Terrorism? Blessing Mhlanga Remanded In Custudy*
In a heated cross-examination, lawyer Chris Mhike questioned a Counter-Terrorism Unit Detective Chief Inspector on why he was treating journalism as terrorism in the case of journalist Blessed Mhlanga.
The officer denied doing so but struggled to justify his involvement in a journalism-related case, calling it an "administrative assignment." When pressed on whether Mhlanga was a terrorist, he replied, "I don't know."
The officer revealed Mhlanga's alleged crime was "transmitting data" via YouTube under HSTV, but admitted Mhlanga does not own YouTube or HSTV. When asked why Mhlanga was being arrested for HSTV's activities, he claimed HSTV acts through individuals.
Meanwhile, the magistrate has remanded Blessed Mhlanga in custody until Thursday, February 27th, at 2 PM, when a ruling on his bail application will be delivered.
With contradictions piling up, the exchange raised serious concerns about press freedom and the nature of the charges. 📢 #pressfreedom #journalismontrial #zimbabwe
