This week's hero of faith is Joseph, and we will be exploring three key lessons from his life. 1. God rules: Joseph’s brothers hated him because their father favoured him. Their anger grew when Joseph shared his dreams, suggesting they would one day serve him. This led them to plot his murder, making it seem like a wild animal killed him. But God intervened. Instead of killing Joseph, Reuben persuaded them to throw him into a pit (Gen 37:21-23). God redirected their plan, leading to Joseph being sold into slavery rather than killed, so His purpose for Joseph’s life (Gen 50:20) would be fulfilled. Just as with Joseph, God has the final say and can stop the enemy’s plans against us. 2. God has a plan for your life: Even as a slave, Joseph remained faithful to God. He was falsely accused by Potiphar’s wife, imprisoned as an innocent man, and forgotten by the butler he helped. From a human view, it might have seemed like God’s plan had gone off course, but it was all part of His greater purpose. We too must stay faithful, even when life doesn’t make sense, trusting that God is working out His plan for our good and His glory. 3. God is with you: Despite all that Joseph went through, God blessed him and was always with him (Gen 39:21-23). Because of his submissive attitude and faithfulness, he was made head over Potiphar’s house, then over all the prisoners, and eventually became second in command over Egypt—giving him great authority. He was respected by the people, reunited with his family, and lived to an old age. In the same way, God is with us in our hardships and will bless us for our faithfulness in His perfect time and way.
