This week's hero of faith is Rahab, and we will be exploring three key lessons from her life. Bravery: Rahab lived in Jericho just before the Israelite invasion, led by Joshua. As the army approached, fear spread through the city. Joshua sent two spies to assess its defences, and they found refuge at Rahab’s house, a prostitute. Despite her reputation, she saw a chance to change her fate and chose to help them, risking her life. When the king heard of the spies, he sent soldiers to Rahab’s house. She lied, saying they had left, then secretly warned the spies that Jericho feared the Israelites. Rahab’s bravery not only saved her family but also helped the Israelite victory, showing the power of courage in adversity. Faith: Before the spies left, Rahab asked them to spare her family. They agreed, but she had to tie a red cord in her window as a sign. As planned, the Israelites surrounded Jericho. After seven days, the walls fell, and they conquered the city, sparing Rahab’s family. She joined the Israelite community, leaving her old life behind and embracing faith in God. Like her, we can choose faith, no matter our past. Redemption: Rahab married Salmon from the tribe of Judah, becoming part of Christ’s lineage. Her story shows that, no matter our past or mistakes, we can find redemption and a new beginning through Jesus.
