A 20-month-old infant is fighting for survival at a Bulawayo hospital after his mother slams him on the ground repeatedly. According to reports, the woman viciously attacked the toddler by slamming him onto the ground and kicking him in the face, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.
The authorities in Bulawayo have confirmed the mother’s arrest. Police suspect that the woman may be battling severe drug addiction and mental health issues, which could have contributed to her violent behaviour.
Police Statement on the Incident
Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the Deputy Provincial Spokesperson for the Bulawayo Police, provided details about the shocking incident, which occurred on the afternoon of February 5, 2025, around 4 PM.
“The infant’s aunt received an anonymous phone call alerting her that the child’s mother was holding him by the legs, repeatedly slamming his body against the ground and kicking him in the face. The baby is currently in serious condition at the hospital,” stated Assistant Inspector Msebele.
The child was immediately rushed to the hospital, where medical professionals are doing everything possible to stabilize his condition. The severity of his injuries has raised serious concerns, and doctors are closely monitoring his progress.
Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation into the matter. The mother remains in police custody and is expected to undergo a psychological evaluation as part of the inquiry. Authorities are working to establish the circumstances leading to this tragic assault.
In a separate and equally disturbing incident, Bulawayo police are investigating an attempted murder case involving a 26-year-old man who was discovered lying in a pool of blood with multiple injuries. The victim sustained deep wounds to his head, back, and legs.
The attack occurred on the night of February 7, 2025, around 11 PM. According to Assistant Inspector Msebele, the victim was found by a passerby who was returning from a nearby shopping center. The injured man was immediately taken to the hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
