*Bear it, Overcome it!*
_By Archbishop Charles Agyinasare_
_Day 48 (17/02/2025)_
> _*1 Corinthians 10:13 (NKJV) "No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man, but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it." *_
So long as we live in this world, temptations will come our way but there is nothing as exciting as overcoming temptations. In the scripture above, God has given us two sureties. That is, we will not be tempted beyond our limit, and there will always be a way of escape:
Even so, we must look to Jesus, who was tempted as we are, yet without sin. He left us a blueprint in the Gospels when He overcame temptation in the wilderness.
Here are three things you must do to overcome temptation:
1. *Know the word of God.*
Matthew 4:4 (NKJV), "…Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”
Bread or food keeps the body alive, likewise, the word of God keeps our spirit man alive. Knowing the word of God does not mean having head knowledge of the word but having it firmly fixed in our hearts through meditation. When it is firmly fixed in our hearts, it becomes a filter for our thoughts and what we see or hear from others. By the word, we reject impure thoughts or suggestions and only absorb their truth.
2. *Speak the word.*
Matthew 4:7 (NKJV), "Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God. “
On all three occasions, Jesus was tempted; though He could have overcome the devil silently, He countered him by saying, 'It is written'. Anytime the enemy fires his fiery darts at us, we must quench them with the word of faith. Remember, the word of God in our mouth carries the same potency as the word in His own mouth. Therefore, we must speak it.
3. *Resist the Devil.*
Matthew 4:10 (NKJV), "Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve. “
The statement 'away with you, Satan!' was Jesus resisting Satan. Later in His ministry, after praising Peter for speaking the mind of God, He then resisted the enemy’s voice Peter uttered. We must take our place of authority as believers and resist the devil else he will cause us to stumble.
_Precious one, you have the power to overcome all forms of temptations. To keep living the lifestyle of victory, ensure you know the word, speak it to the situation and resist the devil._
*Prayer:*
_Heavenly Father, help me to overcome every form of temptation that will come my way, in Jesus’ name. Amen._
