When this happens, it weakens the collagen and the elastin in the skin. Collagen and elasticin are proteins that are present in the skin and are responsible for keeping it firm and glowing. When these two proteins link with sugars they become weaker . This is what the body is able to handle without adverse effects. To help you manage this, I suggest the following: *1. Know how much per day you are having. Read food labels and make healthier choices when buying processed food.* *2. Know your sugars. Honey, fruit juices and alcohol all contain high amounts of sugar* *3. Drink water. Replace fizzy drinks, juice and energy drinks with water and be aware that flavored water often includes hidden additional ingredients.* *4. Get your beauty sleep. Scientists have found that the sleep hormone, melatonin can reduce glycation damage by 50%* *5. Relax and unwind. Stress causes spikes in cortisol levels.
