भारतीय इतिहास में गुप्त वंश का पता अंग्रेजों ने लगाया । खुदाई की सबूत जुटाये उनके सिक्के खोजे शिलालेख खोजे । तपाक से एक गपोड़ी ने गप्प हांका अजी ये हिंदू राजा था देखो कॉइन पर हमारे देवी देवता का चित्र बना रखा है। तभी एक ने कनपटी लाल कर पूछा की सिक्के पर कुछ लिखा हुआ भी है पढ़ कर बताओ । गपोड़ी की सिट्टी पिटी गुम हो गई बोला । अजी ये मैं कैसे बता सकता हूँ जबसे सृष्टि बनी है तब से देवनागरी लिपि में ही हमरे पुरखे लिखते आ रहे है । ये किसी जाहिल अनपढ़ को लिखने को दे दिया होगा। आगे गपोड़ी गप्प हाँका की ग्वार को देवनागरी लिपि लिखने नहीं आती होगी तो इधर उधर लकीर खिच दिया है इसलिए समझ नहीं आ रहा है लेकिन है हिंदू राजा ही मैं गॉरेंटी से कह सकता हू। अंग्रेज का माथा ठनका बोला बेटा ये गुप्त लिपि है और देवनागरी से पुरानी है। और इसे फ्लीट महोदय ने 1818 CA में पढ़ लिया है और इसमें जो चित्र है वो बुद्धिज्म का है और ऐसे चित्र बुद्धिस्ट देशों में मिलते रहते है और इस लिपि का बौद्धधर्म की किताबों में है तो अगर राजा तुमरा है तुमरे ग्रंथ में इस लिपि का जिक्र क्यो नहीं है ? गपोड़ी बोला साहब ऐसे थोड़े होता है आप बस चित्र देखो और मेरी तरह सोचो राजा आपको हिंदू ही लगेगा । अंग्रेज बोला गपोड़ीलाल, 629 CA में ह्यूएनसंग भारत में आया था उसने कई गुप्त वंश के राजाओ के बारे में डिटेल्स में लिखा है की वो सभी बुद्धिस्ट थे तो उसकी माने या तेरी गपोड़ी सोच को। गपोड़ी को अब समझ नहीं आ रहा था की अब गप्प किधर से हांके क्योकि सामने अंग्रेज था सो गपोड़ी बोला अरे मैं भी वही कह रहा हूँ बुद्ध कोई अलग थोड़े ही है वो भी मेरे अवतार ही है । अंग्रेज ने कहा अच्छा तो कितने मंदिर बनवाया बुद्ध अवतार के लिए। गपोड़ी फिर फस गया बोला अरे बुद्ध ने मूर्ति पूजा का विरोध किया था इसलिए नहीं बनवाया । अंग्रेज बोला बुद्ध ने मूर्ति पूजा का विरोध तेरे कान में फूका था क्या ? क्योकि बुद्धिज्म के सारे देश तो मूर्ति बनवाते है और भारत में भी सभी मूर्ति बुद्धिज्म की है तो तुझसे कबसे बुद्ध ने मूर्ति पूजा का विरोध कर दिया ? और अगर उन्होंने विरोध किया तो तू क्यो मूर्ति पूजा कर रहा ? गपोड़ी फिर फस गया । उसे समझ नहीं आया तो भाग खड़ा हुआ तब से भारत में एक अफ़वाह फैलाये गपोड़ी घूम रहे है की बुद्ध ने मूर्ति पूजा का विरोध किया जबकि हकीकत यह है की बुद्ध के समय न कोई मंदिर था न कोई मूर्ति पूजा और न बुद्ध को मूर्ति पूजा विरोध की जरूरत पड़ी। और वैसे भी बुद्धिज्म में मूर्तिया पूजा करने के लिए नहीं बनती। In Indian history, the British discovered the Gupta dynasty.
