DEMONSTRATION ON CAMPUS TODAY Dear Colleagues Several senior representatives of management, labour, and students, presented before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Higher Education in Cape Town today. This follows an invitation from the Portfolio Committee received on 21 January requesting the University to present on governance, finance, administration, and the state of readiness for the 2025 academic year, and as part of the Portfolio Committees engagement process with institutions of higher learning. Coincidentally, a demonstration took place on campus this morning, which was followed by the interruption of two classes. About 60 individuals, who were largely calling for all students to be registered, then blocked Yale Road, and were asked to leave. The appropriate action will be taken to address these disruptions, in line with the University’s rules and Student Code of Conduct.
