Safer Internet Day opinion article! 🎙️Our opinion article, "Preventing Online Child Sexual Exploitation Should Begin at Home," has been featured in The Standard, Kenya Times, and MSN. ⭐Co-authored by Magdalene Wanza, Country Director, Kenya, Terre des Hommes Netherlands, and Martha Sunda, Executive Director, Childline Kenya, the article highlights alarming findings from the 2023 Safety for Children and their Rights Online (SCROL) study. Over 60% of Kenyan parents lack the knowledge to guide their children on online safety.  Both parents and children scored below 60% in knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) on online child sexual exploitation. ⭐This significant lack of awareness puts children at serious risk of being exploited online. ⭐The article emphasises that the responsibility of making the internet a safer place for children starts with parents.
