RIVERS ASSEMBLY SCREENS, CONFIRMS ASSEMBLY SERVICE COMMISSION, LOCAL GOVERNMENT SERVICE COMMISSION MEMBERS
...As Real Estate Regulatory Authority Bill Scales Second Reading
The Rivers State House of Assembly today screened and confirmed Chairmen and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly Service Commission and the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission during its regular sitting at the temporaral Hallowed Chambers, Admin Block, Government House, Port Harcourt.
Addressing the Assembly, the Speaker, Rt Hon Victor Oko-Jumbo conveyed the correspondence of the Governor of Rivers State, Amaopusenibo Sir Siminialayi Fubara, GSSRS, on his nomination seeking the screening and approval for constitution of the commissions.
After screening, Mr Speaker directed former Assembly Members in the Assembly Service Commission to take bow, while other nominees where screened, culminating in a debate and unanimous resolution of the House in favour of the confirmation of Chairmen and members of both commissions, which includes:
1. Rivers State House of Assembly Service Commission;
i. Hon Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja - Chairman
ii. Hon. Dr Kennedy Ebeku - Member
iii. Hon. Soberekon Clark - Member
iv. Hon. Jones Ogbonda - Member
v. Hon Kingston Sylvanus - Member
2. Rivers State Local Government Service Commission*
i. Hon GoodLife Ben - Chairman
ii. Chief Emmanuel G. Jaja - Member
iii. Ms. Betty Warmate - Member
iv. Barr. Jerome Chimenem - Member
v. Hon Prince O. Ohochukwu - Member
vi. Barr Philip Okparaji - Member
vii. Christian Amadi - Member
Remarking, the Rt Hon Speaker reiterated the responsibility of the Assembly to the interests of the state, pointing out that the House would collaborate with positive moves of the executive arm of government for the furtherance, development, welfare and prosperity of Rivers State, urging the confirmed nominees to leverage on their wealth of experience for the forward-march of the state in all ramifications.
Afterwards, the Real Estate Regulatory Authority Bill 2024 was represented by its sponsor, and Leader of the House, Hon Sokari Goodboy Sokari which scaled second reading and was refered to the Committee on Lands and Housing with a mandate to revert in 14 days.
Also, the House Committee on Public Complains and Pettitions Headed by Hon Sokari Goodboy Sokari gave a brief report on the Iloma Oil Spilage in Bonny, noting that the Committee visited the affected sites which was a gory and pathetic sight to behold.
He commended the support of the Bonny Council Chairman, Dame Anengi Barasua Claude-Wilcox and the collaboration of the communities, praying to the House for more time towards fostering a more detailed report which was granted by Mr Speaker for two additional two weeks.
Other business of the day included the presentation of a petition on oil spill in Bukuma, Degema LGA, and the announcement of the deployment of a Deputy Clerk of the State Assembly, Mrs Joyce Ndigbara Omenihu.
