LOVE IS A CHOICE, NOT JUST A FEELING "And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity." – Colossians 3:14 (NIV) Love is more than an emotion; it is a conscious decision. Feelings come and go, but true love is a commitment to act in kindness, patience, and selflessness, even when emotions waver. Paul urges believers to “put on love,” indicating that love is something we intentionally choose, just as we put on clothing each day. It is not based on circumstances but on a decision to reflect Christ in our interactions. In relationships, whether friendships, family, or marriage, love requires effort. It means choosing to forgive instead of holding grudges, to be patient instead of reacting in frustration, and to serve rather than seek self-interest. Jesus demonstrated this when He chose to love humanity even when we were undeserving (Romans 5:8). His love was sacrificial, not based on fleeting emotions but on divine commitment. Love also binds virtues together. Without love, even the best qualities —kindness, humility, gentleness— lose their meaning (1 Corinthians 13:1-3). Love holds relationships together, strengthens communities, and reflects the very nature of God. It is the glue that sustains peace and unity among people. When we love as Christ loved, we become instruments of His grace in a broken world. This kind of love is not always easy. There will be days when choosing love feels difficult, but that is where God’s grace empowers us. We do not love in our strength alone, but through the Holy Spirit who fills our hearts with God’s love (Romans 5:5). When we surrender to Him, He enables us to love beyond human limitations. Love is the mark of a true disciple of Christ. It is not merely an emotional response but a lifestyle of intentional kindness, forgiveness, and sacrifice. Each day presents an opportunity to choose love — toward family, friends, strangers, and even those who challenge us. As you put on love, you reflect the heart of Christ, bringing healing, restoration, and unity wherever you go. Meditate! Am I choosing love in my daily interactions, even when it’s difficult? Pray! Lord, help me to love as You love. Teach me to choose love over anger, forgiveness over bitterness, and service over selfishness. Let my life reflect Your love in all that I do. Amen. Act! Be intentional about showing love today. Extend grace to someone who has wronged you, serve someone in need, or simply offer words of encouragement. Read! 1 Corinthians 13:1-8, John 15:12, Romans 5:5, 1 John 4:7-12. God’s love in you is not meant to stay hidden, it is meant to be shared. Every day, you have the privilege of being a vessel of His love, touching lives with kindness, patience, and compassion. Even when love is difficult, remember that His Spirit empowers you to love beyond your natural ability. Love without conditions, give without hesitation, and let the world see Christ in you!
