*About the Position*
The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) is seeking a Hotel General Manager (GM) to oversee the opening and management of a new hotel property in Harare, Zimbabwe. The GM will lead the pre-opening phase, ensure operational excellence, deliver exceptional guest experiences, and meet financial and business objectives.
*Key Responsibilities*
Pre-Opening Phase
- Lead the recruitment, hiring, training, and on-boarding of key staff
- Coordinate with corporate teams for operational plans, marketing, and IT infrastructure
- Collaborate with contractors and vendors to ensure brand standards are met
- Develop and implement pre-opening budgets, forecasts, and track costs
- Train staff on policies and procedures tailored to local regulations
- Create sales strategies and local marketing efforts to drive guest awareness
- Ensure all licensing, legal, and safety requirements are met prior to opening
*Operational Phase (Post-Opening)*
- Oversee daily operations to ensure a high-quality guest experience
- Drive revenue growth through strategic planning and pricing strategies
- Manage marketing and sales initiatives to maximize visibility and revenue
- Represent the hotel at local events to build networks and reputation
- Monitor financial performance, including operating expenses and budgets
- Review guest feedback and resolve issues to maintain high satisfaction levels
- Lead performance meetings with department heads to assess KPIs
- Maintain adherence to brand standards and drive continuous improvements
- Manage relationships with stakeholders, including corporate offices and local businesses
- Implement health and safety standards for staff and guests
- Foster a positive and collaborative culture focused on guest satisfaction and team performance
*Required Qualifications*
- Proven experience as a Hotel General Manager, including both pre-opening and operational management
- Knowledge of hotel management software and property management systems (PMS)
- Strong financial management abilities, including budget and cost control
- Excellent leadership and communication skills; able to inspire and manage teams
- Ability to develop operational processes and ensure consistent quality
- Strong business development and marketing skills to boost sales and brand awareness
- Experience with upscale or full-service hotel brands is mandatory; conference center management is a plus
*Preferred Qualifications*
- Master’s degree in hospitality management, Business Administration, or a related field
- Minimum of 10 years in hotel management, with 3-5 years in a senior leadership role
- Experience in hotel pre-opening and/or multi-property management is advantageous
- Fluency in English
