UTH Registrar reports high rise in throat cancer among young people!
The University Teaching Hospital (UTH) Registrar, Mwansa Chabala, says the hospital has recorded an increase in cases of throat cancer among young people.
Dr. Chabala has attributed the increase to smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and exposure to radiation, among other factors.
Dr. Chabala notes that lifestyle choices are a major contributing factor, with young people frequently engaging in harmful habits like smoking shisha, which has long-term health effects.
He has urged individuals to be alert to early symptoms, which include persistent hoarseness, difficulty in swallowing, and unexplained lumps in the neck or throat.
