Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors." Psalm 119:23, 24, NIV Text: Psalm 119:17-24 Psalms 119:17-24 NIV [17] Be good to your servant while I live, that I may obey your word. [18] Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law. [19] I am a stranger on earth; do not hide your commands from me. [20] My soul is consumed with longing for your laws at all times. [21] You rebuke the arrogant, who are accursed, those who stray from your commands. [22] Remove from me their scorn and contempt, for I keep your statutes. [23] Though rulers sit together and slander me, your servant will meditate on your decrees. [24] Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors. _____________________ "The word "Delight" means "to gain great pleasure, satisfaction, and happiness." It means to derive joy in doing something. Among many other things that young people take delight in doing is expressing their love of celebrities and sports stars. The root word from which delight is derived, as written in the text, means to find enjoyment in God, to incline our hearts towards Him. In today's text, the psalmist stated how he chose to delight in God's words and ways, as they contain so many wonderful things. With God's word, the arrogant are rebuked, as they are his counselors. He declared that though the rulers sit together and slander him, he will meditate on God's decrees. Every blessing that a man can ever receive in life is tied to God's Word and His ways. His ways lead to life while other ways lead to damnation. Do your best to delight, know, and follow God's ways. That is the only secret of power, protection, security, and provision. Everything good comes to those who follow God's ways. Your fulfillment in life rests on God's Word.
