In one of her fascinating podcasts, Bruce Lee’s daughter Shannon, describes her father in a really unique, 4 angled way, I call the “quadrants of the dragon”. These 4 are: (1) Love - Bruce Lee loved his life… he loved his family, his martial arts, his study of philosophy… he loved it all! He was in love with life. (2) Passion - Bruce was a man of passion… he had within him, what he described as a huge energy, that meant everything he did was done with the passion of being excellent and constantly self-actualising. (3) Skill - Skill featured very heavily in Bruce’s life. He was always deepening and honing his skill sets… hence his 2,000 book library. He sought to be the best he could be, in whatever he was doing. (4) Craft - Bruce was a master craftsman. In his major endeavours he was not only focused on himself and his abilities, but on improving the actual craft itself… hence the craft of Jeet Kune Do. So, I found these 4 distinctions from Shannon, to be highly illuminating and worthy of deep reflection.
