Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira opened the meeting and mentioned some of the axes for action during 2025: Wars: “A new global security architecture, one that reflects contemporary realities and upholds our shared moral responsibility to act.” Deglobalization: “Resist this fragmentation and advocate for an open, fair and balanced multilateral trading system that meets the needs of the Global South and promotes a truly multipolar economic order.” Inequalities between nations: “Continue to promote alternative financial mechanisms, such as the New Development Bank, which plays a vital role in financing infrastructure and sustainable development projects in emerging economies.” Artificial intelligence: “It cannot be dictated by a small group of actors while the rest of the world is forced to adapt to rules it did not help establish. The BRICS must champion a multilateral approach that ensures AI development is ethical, transparent and aligned with the collective interests of humanity.” De-dollarization: “Despite our significant contribution to the global economy, trade among the BRICS countries is still far below its potential. Our chairmanship will focus on ways to increase trade flows, exploring trade facilitation measures and promoting payment instruments in local currencies.” Climate change (responsibilities): “Despite contributing little to historic greenhouse gas emissions, the Global South suffers the brunt of the consequences (...) . Addressing this crisis requires not only ambition, but also justice.
