✝️🇻🇪 *José Gregorio Hernández will become the first Venezuelan saint*
🗓 Born on October 26, 1864, in the town of Isnotú, Trujillo state, Venezuela.
👨⚕️ A doctor, scientist, and philanthropist, José Gregorio Hernández was renowned among the poor for providing free medical care. He passed away on June 29, 1919, after being hit by a car on a busy street in Caracas.
✝️⛪️ Venezuelan religious authorities began the process for his beatification in 1949, though it wasn’t until 1985 that the Vatican declared him "venerable." In 2021, he was beatified after Church experts confirmed that José Gregorio was responsible for the miraculous recovery of Yaxuri Solórzano, a young girl who survived a gunshot to the head in 2017.
🇻🇦 This Tuesday, February 25, 2025, Pope Francis authorized the canonization of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández, making him the first Venezuelan to be officially recognized as a saint.
🗓✝️ The date for Hernández's canonization ceremony has yet to be determined.
