*Severed From The Roots: Destruction of Cultural Institutions* -Hold on to what will allow you to maintain your own identity, and thus your sovereign will and ways- The Zulu monarch, under the Ingonyama Trust, reportedly holds and manages nearly 3 million hectares of land [Approximately 30% of Kwazulu-Natal land area]. This making the monarch, possibly the largest Black land owner in the world. In financial terms, around 24 billion rand, or US$1.2 billion is brought into the trust, from land tax collections and other land related exploits. Now this Trust, it is part of the pillars to the institution of Zulu culture. It and the Monarch that holds and manages it. The Monarch as an institution, has undertaken being responsible for preservation of culture and traditional rites, as well as forstering collective cultural memory, through financing and also resourcing the telling of the stories of their nation, as well as supporting traditional practices, including music and ceremonial gatherings. Now i in this essay, look into how in yesteryear's colonial day and in today's neo-colonial present, these institutions have been a target of erasure tactics. The assertion behind this essay is; *Spiritually we as a continent aren't in good terms with our ancestors, because we still have not done the right thing, to give importance to Cultural institutions, and the advice they offer over land. We just build everywhere, We've commercialized the land, we displace, we do as the settlers, no regard for spiritual and cultural significance* *Reflection* Lebensraum or Living Space is a German ideological concept, that was prevalent during the Nazi regime [1930s and 1940s]. It is an ideological concept rooted in the idea that a culture needs space to live, grow, and expand its territorial dominion, in order for it to be relevant. Now to wrap up the Zulu monarch reflection i opened with. The status that the Ingonyama Trust has, was established as part of the negotiations that characterized the transition to post Apartheid South Africa. Whilst Ingonyama Trust has no direct ties to the Boipatong Massacre, which occurred in 1992, where 45 lives were lost in the violent clashes between Inkatha Freedom Party [IFP] and the African National Congress [ANC]. Boipatong Massacre however did contribute to the broader context of negotiations that amongst the transition to Democracy, gave existence to such as the Ingonyama Trust. However most recently, there has risen interest to disband the Trust, and erase its influence and power, subsequently the relevance of the Zulu monarch and culture altogether. Where do i get that from? I this morning came into an SABC article on the Land Reform Committee's postponed meeting with the Zulu King Misizulu ka Zwelithini. This is following the signing of the contentious South African land reform's expropriation bill into law, by President Cyril Ramaphosa, on January 23, 2025, which is just a week ago. At *Dare Renyika*, i and ZICH MEDIA team's Shayamombe, had earlier in the week discussed the varicity of Traditional leaders being given way to reclaim their Heritage, of Ingonyama Trust style governance of their historic traditional territories. To read on the discussion and the outcome, as well as finer details regarding the ongoing national dialogue on the role of Traditional leaders in land affairs, continue to Part 2. *Written by Chikovhi & ZICH Media* I would like to thank ZICH Media for this opportunity, and thank you all whom read!
