*Compounding Reflection*
Unless you've been living under a rock, the world has been since post World War 2, living under an American led hegemony. That hegemony has been maintained in place using a series of systematic and Western-centric institutions, organizations, policies, and laws.
Now, that has been put in jeopardy and the revolutionary front, meaning all those that have been opposed to this status quo, are dumbstruck by the almost overnight shift. Amongst revolutionaries we've decried *Neo-colonialism*. Saying the West, America in particular have utilized institutions i.e. World Health Organization, United Nations, World Economic Forum, etcetera; Organizations such as USAID, Green Peace, Amnesty International and so on, as well as policies and laws that have given right to the West to meddle into our internal affairs.
This methodical house of cards, has been almost tumbled. I mean the *International Criminal Court* has been threatened with sanctions and withdrawal of support. For so long America and allies have used that institution as a hound that pursues others, however not them.
In 2011 the United States of America pushed a referal of the Libyan situation to the ICC, putting in motion the indictment of Muammar Gaddafi, and subsequently leading to the justification for a military intervention in Libya. The justification in bold was *There's a need to protect civilians from human rights abuses*.
To a more targeted aspect of this essay; where i touch on the part where Zimbabwe or Africa couldn't fully pursue stronger ties with polar West allies. Why? Well because America has been pervasively involved in our countries, creating through aid, a dependence situation, whereby to replace their role in maintaining the integrity of our countries' stability, would be an socio-economically catastrophic attempt to freedom. Basically making themselves the hand that feeds us.
See that to replace free food and distribution, heavily subsidized medication, and other social relief mechanisms, it is an almost unassailable mountain, without very much so causing instability in your country. This type of aid, it hasn't been based on teaching a man how to fish, so he can feed himself, however it has been based on giving him fish, so he depends on you.
So what now? Since Trump has fully granted us the liberty to choose our partners. Is it either we unite as Africa, with our long time allies from the East, in our efforts to move away from Western dependence, and into a world where we potentially self sustain. Or we succumb to the looming threat of simply moving from one "dictatorship" into another. Where we potentially just put the East in the same position as was the west, due to the unknown nature of the otherwise/self dependence.
Are our leaders prepared? Are we prepared? If there's answers to these questions, only the next few months will tell. As it will kick in slowly, that something has been done. That something is set to change the very nature of livelihood that you and i have long only known.
*Conclusion*
As a revolutionary i have been excited about this shift in global affairs. However as a civilian, i have had moments to reflect on what aspects of my life might possibly change for either the worst, or some best i just would've never known. Nonetheless it is a shift i think for Africa to build and to self cater, needs for it to happen.
Growing pains are inevitable, however what will prove our character, is how we will come out of it, or lie desperately in need of saving from it. Are you thinking about it too now? The assertion that *Trump has in under a month, done what revolutionaries in Africa and the world have tried to do for the past 80 plus years, and in Africa we are trying to figure out WHAT TO DO WITH ALL THIS NEW "FREEDOM".*
