*Timbuktu: A Cradle Of Pre-Euro-colonial Africa, Touched by Unholy Jihad* -You come from a culture, you are cultured, and thus you should recognize your significance in preserving the integrity of Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwean identity- The Mali Empire, once Africa's largest empire, surviving from 13th to 16th century. It was founded by Sundiata Keita the great, in the 13th century. Timbuktu was once the capital of this vast and powerful empire, serving as a major trade hub, intellectual center, and scholarly hub. Housed Universities such as the University of Sankore, as well as libraries, such as our subject monument and or matter in this essay. *The Ahmed Baba Library*. The assertion behind this essay is, *Jihadists are socio-culturally engineering Africa towards a new colonial reality* *Reflection* Throughout centuries Timbuktu has been shaped by various cultures, empires, and influences, as it has seen occupation after occupation. Founded in the 12th century by the Tuareg, a Berber ethnic group, Timbuktu began as a humble trading post. Soon after, the Mali Empire under the rule of Mansa Musa I, conquered Timbuktu and made it an important trading center and Islamic learning hub. However from the Mali Empire, the Tuareg people reclaimed Timbuktu. The powerful Songhai Empire then reportedly in the 15th to 16th centuries, conquered and occupied Timbuktu. Reportedly in 1591, the Moroccans conquered Timbuktu, and occupied it till the 18th century. Right before French colonization, the Tuareg people again reclaimed Timbuktu, defeating the Moroccans. Post French colonization, Timbuktu in 1960 became part of the Independent Republic of Mali. Although most recently, and related to the burning of the Ahmed Baba library, Timbuktu briefly from 2012 to 2013, was under the terrorist group Al-Qaeda's occupation. Which this then brings me to the aspect of this essay that will best give sense to the above given assertion. "The first step in liquidating a people, is to erase its memory. Destroy its books, culture, and its history. Before long the nation will begin to forget what it is, and what it was."
