*UPDATE: Incarcerated veteran politician Dr. Kizza Besigye has called off his hunger strike following his formal arraignment in a civilian court.*
According to his lawyer, Erias Lukwago, Besigye made the decision after being presented before Nakawa Chief Magistrates’ Court, where he was formally charged with treason and remanded until March 7, 2025.
Besigye, who was wheeled into court due to his deteriorating health, had been on a hunger strike in protest against his detention. His case continues to draw widespread attention, with calls for his release from his supporters and human rights activists.
