*Do I Need It or Do I Want It?* 🤔💸
We’ve all been there – you’re out shopping or scrolling online and you see something that catches your eye. But before you reach for your money, stop and ask yourself: Do I really need this, or do I just want it?
Understanding the difference between needs and wants can help you make smarter choices with your money. Here’s how to tell:
*What’s a Need?*
A need is something you can’t do without. These are the things you need to live, stay healthy, and keep things running smoothly.
🔹 *Examples of needs:*
Food and water
A place to live (rent or mortgage)
Transport to get to work or school
Clothes (but just the basics, not the latest trends!)
Bills (electricity, phone, etc.)
*What’s a Want?*
A want is something that makes life nicer, but it’s not essential. It’s something you can live without for a while (or forever, sometimes!).
🔹 *Examples of wants:*
New clothes or shoes
The latest phone or gadget
Eating out at expensive restaurants
Extra subscriptions (like streaming services, magazines, etc.)
*How to Tell the Difference:*
🔹 Think about your priorities: Do you need this to live or get by, or is it just something that would be nice to have?
🔹 Give yourself time: If you’re not sure, wait for a day or two. If you still feel like you really need it after that, then maybe it’s worth getting!
🔹 Stick to your goals: If buying it stops you from saving for something important, like a holiday, or your future, then it’s probably a want, not a need.
💡 Top Tip: If you focus more on your needs and less on your wants, you’ll have more money to save, and that can help you reach your bigger goals, like buying a house or going on a dream holiday!
So, next time you're about to buy something, take a moment to ask: Do I need it, or do I just want it? This small question can make a big difference to your bank balance!
How do you decide between _*needs*_ and _*wants*_ ?
