Describing the destruction of the disbelieving nations, Allah says in surah Saba' [34]: [وَظَلَمُوا أَنفُسَهُمْ فَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ أَحَادِيثَ وَمَزَّقْنَاهُمْ كُلَّ مُمَزَّقٍ ۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِّكُلِّ صَبَّارٍ شَكُورٍ] _And they wronged themselves so We made them ahadith - tales/recollections - and completely dispersed them. There are signs for every patient and grateful person in that_. [19] Commenting on part of this, sheikh Muhammad al-Ameen al-Shinqitee wrote: [وقوله فجعلناهم أحاديث أي : أخبارا وقصصا يسمر بها ، ويتعجب منها ، كما قال ابن دريد في مقصورته : وإنما المرء حديث بعده فكن حديثا حسنا لمن وعى ] Allah's statement, "So We made them ahadith" - i.e. news and stories for people to spend the evening recounting and marvelling at.
