Allah describes the Qur'an at the end of surah Yusuf [12] by saying: [لَقَدْ كَانَ فِي قَصَصِهِمْ عِبْرَةٌ لِّأُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ ۗ مَا كَانَ حَدِيثًا يُفْتَرَىٰ وَلَٰكِن تَصْدِيقَ الَّذِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَتَفْصِيلَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةً لِّقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ] _In their stories, there was certainly a lesson for the people of understanding. It was not a made-up tale; rather, it is a confirmation of what came before a detailed explanation of all things, and a guidance and mercy for the believing people_. [111] In his tafsir, ibn Kathir wrote: [( ولكن تصديق الذي بين يديه ) أي : من الكتب المنزلة من السماء ، وهو يصدق ما فيها من الصحيح ، وينفي ما وقع فيها من تحريف وتبديل وتغيير ، ويحكم عليها بالنسخ أو التقرير] "Rather, it is a confirmation of what came before" i.e. the divinely revealed scriptures that when sent down from above.
