This unprecedented record nearly matches the 1956 benchmark set in Angola, where the world’s heaviest elephant was recorded at 10.886 tonnes (11,000 kg) and stood nearly 13 feet (4 meters) tall—a record that has greatly influenced research on elephant weights, typically ranging from 6 to 8 tonnes. The weight of this colossal elephant posed unique challenges and sparked innovation for the KWS Vet and Capture Unit. In a remarkable feat of creativity, the team employed not one, but two cranes to safely relocate the jumbo to the Aberdare ecosystem!
