*Champion of the community*
NORTON, ZIMBABWE
In a heartwarming display of loyalty to Norton, perseverance and community spirit, Silvester, renowned for his carwash "PaSirivah", has embarked on a mission to empower the youth of Norton.
In an exclusive interview with Norton Mirror editor, Silvester shared his inspiring journey, which began in 1999 when he moved to Norton from Highfields and started off as a rank marshal for commuter omnibuses at Katanga.
However, years of working in a chaotic environment, Silvester left his position as a Rank Marshal to start a Carwash.
He said," I left this job so that I could work in a more professional way, the nature of conducting is often shady and risky as some of the activities are not legal so I started a car wash and it seems to be working out quite well, if go by Katanga, you can ask around they know me and they respect me well."
Silvester started a car wash business, which has since become one of the best in Norton. He has since escalated his work to washing vehicles for bigger organisations.
" I even wash our local police vehicles, Norton Town Council and even school buses , they know we do a good job here and they keep coming"
His success, however, has not blinded him to the challenges faced by the youth in his community. He noticed that many young people were idle, with limited job opportunities and a lack of direction, making them vulnerable to drug and substance abuse.
" if you look around here I have around 7 young guys working here, this is job creation at its peak because they have something to do to make a living they will not succumb to the pressure of taking drug, I look forward to growing this industry so that I can train and employ more young people to fend for themselves."
Determined to make a difference, Silvester mentioned that he offers free vocational training. Helping the youth to work with their own hands.
He went on to say "I think this program has been a game-changer for our community, our young people now have hope and a sense of purpose."
As Norton we should be grateful for Silvester's selflessness and commitment to empowering our youth. This holistic approach ensures a future that is free from the grip of drug and substance abuse
Silvester's story is a testament to the power of entrepreneurship and community spirit. His journey serves as an inspiration to others, demonstrating that with hard work, determination, and a willingness to give back, anyone can make a positive impact in their community.
We should have more people like Silvester in the community and together will we rise!!!
