DEAR FEMALE FILMMAKERS: MEET THE LATE SAFI FAYE❤️
If you haven't heard about her, the late Safi Faye (Senegal 1943 - 2023) was the first African woman to direct a film that was distributed commercially. The name of the film is Kaddu Beykat (Letter from my village - https://lnkd.in/d6YhRZjD), and was done in 1975, initially getting banned from screening in Senegal due to its criticism of the National agricultural policies that were inherited form the colonial period. Despite this setback, she went on to produce even more films, Becoming one of the greatest female filmmakers to ever exist.
Safi was a legend and a great example to the industry, she was not just a filmmaker, but an advocate storyteller, who aimed to better the lives of many through film. 🎬💚 found her beautiful story here, and you can read more here:
