The US embassy confirms it is pausing all assistance to align its programmes with Donald Trump’s aid cuts. Says the embassy: “The U.S. Embassy in Zimbabwe has paused its foreign assistance and is reviewing its programs to bring them in line with this Executive Order and the waiver”. The US is Zimbabwe’s single largest donor to HIV/AIDS programmes, and stepped up humanitarian aid after last year’s drought. At the end of 2023, the US had programmes worth over $300 million running in Zimbabwe, according to data on the USAID foreign aid portal.
