Yesterday, at the opening of the PFM Africa Conference 2025, Hon. Henry Ariganyira Musasizi, State Minister of Finance (General Duties), delivered a powerful keynote speech on Africa’s public finance landscape. He emphasized that effective public finance management is the foundation for economic growth, poverty reduction, and social transformation. While Africa has made great strides in strengthening PFM, there are still challenges that need urgent attention. Key PFM Reforms & Progress: ✅ Strengthened legal & institutional frameworks ✅ Digital transformation of public finance ✅ Tax reforms improving revenue mobilization ✅ Enhanced debt management strategies ✅ Regional cooperation boosting intra-Africa trade Challenges That Remain: ⚠️ Low domestic revenue mobilization ⚠️ Public debt sustainability concerns ⚠️ Corruption & financial leakages ⚠️ Weak expenditure tracking & budget implementation Hon. Musasizi called for bold leadership, strong institutions, and the integration of innovative financial technologies to create resilient, transparent, and inclusive public finance systems.
