*Muzarabani with man of the match performance against Ireland with both bat and ball* *Welch misses out, tail wags, but Ireland in win day two* Zimbabwe endured a testing second day of the Only Test against Ireland at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, eventually bowled out for 267 after a spirited fightback led by Nick Welch and a gutsy tail-end partnership between Blessing Muzarabani and Trevor Gwandu. Resuming on 72/1 with Welch on 38 and Takudzwanashe Kaitano on 26, the hosts had hopes of building a solid first-innings total. However, Ireland’s bowlers quickly seized the momentum. Kaitano was the first to go, trapped leg before by Barry McCarthy without adding to his overnight score. McCarthy’s aggressive seam bowling soon accounted for Brian Bennett, clean-bowled for just seven, leaving Zimbabwe wobbling early on. Despite the setbacks, Welch stood firm, anchoring the innings with a composed and determined knock. He navigated the Irish attack with grit, finding support from Wessly Madhevere, who contributed a brisk 26 before being caught off a rebound from square leg. Johnathan Campbell’s brief cameo ended swiftly as Zimbabwe’s middle order faltered under sustained pressure from McBrine’s clever spin. After lunch, the host side’s struggles continued. Nyasha Mayavo was trapped lbw attempting an ambitious sweep, and Newman Nyamhuri fell for a golden duck, nicking off to second slip. Welch, who had been Zimbabwe’s beacon of hope, fell agonisingly short of a well-deserved century, caught brilliantly by Harry Tector for 90. With the top order back in the pavilion, the tail had to dig deep. Muzarabani played with surprising fluency and confidence, smashing six boundaries in a spirited knock of 47. Together with Gwandu, who remained unbeaten on 18, Muzarabani helped add a crucial 67 runs for the final wicket, giving Zimbabwe a slender lead. His valiant effort was cut short just after tea when Humphreys bowled him across the line. Ireland started fiercely, with Peter Moor in particular punishing Muzarabani with a barrage of fours. Moor then tickled one of Ngarava to Nyasha Mayavo, who gathered. The batter had to depart for 30. At the end of the day, Andrew Balbirnie was on 32 and Curtis Campher. Ireland are 83/1, 76 runs ahead. Zimbabwe will need to get rid of some of the untidiness and indiscipline if they are to wrest back control of the match.
