A Sphinx Statue of King Psamtik II. Sphinxes served as temple figures. Combining the body of a lion the head of a royal human, the sphinx was a powerful symbol of the ancient Egyptian concept of divine kingship. Although now headless, this sphinx retains part of its striped Nemes Headdress. Statue was Dicovered in Thebes, Egypt. Dates back to the 26th Dynasty, The Late period (664-589 BCE). Displayed at The Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, Maryland.
