*SALGA WESTERN CAPE PEC FRUITFULLY ENGAGE WITH THE CAPE WINELANDS DISTRICT MUNICIPALITIES* *GOOD* Statement by *Chad Davids*, *GOOD* City of Cape Town Councillor and SALGA Provincial Executive Committee member 02 February 2025 The GOOD Party welcomes the robust dialogue between South African Local Government Association (SALGA) and municipalities in the Cape Winelands. Held in Robertson from 29 – 31 January 2025, the meaningful engagement provided a platform for input from several of the delegates on important issues that are faced by most if not all municipalities. Issues such as Land Occupation, Landfill Sites & Solid Waste, the influence of Loadshedding on the Revenue Stream of the Municipality, Backyard Dwellers and Unemployment - contentious issues that directly impede efficient service delivery to residents in the various municipalities. The ideas, suggestions and proposals made by the various municipalities and the members of the SALGA PEC will certainly affect the proper functioning of local government. Along with the issues listed above, there were also other problems discussed on the PEC agenda which includes the manner in which Motions of No Confidence are submitted and handled, internal discipline procedures, Disaster Management, Municipal Sustainability and Municipal Governance. The GOOD Party calls for further meaningful engagements with municipalities and for municipalities to carefully consider the proposals, assistances and guidance of SALGA.
