He instructed these men to hide under large clay jars that were scattered around the location where the witches gathered. Each man had a shofar (a ram's horn) with him. At a signal from Shimon ben Shetach, the men emerged from their hiding places, blew their shofars, and seized the witches. This sudden and overwhelming action left the witches powerless, and they were brought to justice.
