Tonight marks the Hilula of the esteemed Rabbi Yitzchak Abuchatzeira. According to tradition, his father, the illustrious ABIR YAAKOB (Rabbi Yaakov Abuchatzeira, grandfather of the Baba Sali), had completed his family with three sons and two daughters, thus fulfilling the mitzvah of "Pru U'Rvu." As a result, he separated from his wife, though they were not divorced. One night, Rabbi Yaakov had a dream in which the Holy Arizal appeared to him and instructed him that his family was not yet complete. The Arizal, Rabbi Yitzchak Luria Ashkenazi, told him to have another child, a son, and name him Yitzchak. Rabbi Yaakov then had another son, whom he named Yitzchak, in accordance with the Arizal's directive. By the age of eight, Rabbi Yitzchak was already recognized as a prodigious scholar. One famous account tells of an incident after Yom Kippur, when the congregation sought to recite the Birkat HaLevana (Blessing of the Moon). However, the sky was overcast, preventing the moon from being visible. At that moment, Rabbi Yaakov called upon his son, Rabbi Yitzchak, who was instructed to command the clouds to part. Within moments, the clouds cleared, allowing them to recite the blessing. Another remarkable story occurred when Rabbi Yitzchak was traveling through Morocco to collect charity. While en route to another town, he informed his attendant that they would soon be stopped by thieves and robbers. He predicted that he would be shot multiple times, but assured his attendant that he would be unharmed. However, Rabbi Yitzchak foresaw that he would not survive, especially as it was a Friday afternoon. He requested one thing from his attendant: that he be buried in the city of Taflilat, Morocco, before Shabbat. When the attendant asked why, Rabbi Yitzchak explained that he had accepted a heavenly decree on behalf of the Jewish community of the town. Instead of the decree falling upon the people, he would bear the burden himself. Shortly after this conversation, the prophecy came to pass. In honor of Rabbi Yitzchak Abuchatzeira, several customs have become widely observed: 1)Light a candle in his memory "Leiluy Nishmat, Rabbi Yitzchak Abuchatzeira ben R’ Yaakov" 2) Purchase a new bottle of Arak and write on it the specific request (one thing) that a person seeks from Heaven, as well inscribe the following in Hebrew; קניתי בקבוק זה לכבוד הצדיק רבי יצחק בן רבי יעקב דמן תולאל ובעזרת ה' כאשר איוושע (specify here your request). אפתח את הבקבוק בהילולת הצדיק לשנה הבאה" Keep the bottle sealed until the following year’s yahrzeit, at which point it may be opened, and, God willing, the prayer will have been answered. 3) Another custom is to fill a bottle with water from the tap while reciting the name of the Tzaddik, "Rabbi Yitzchak ben Rabbi Yaakov Abuchatzeira," while filling the bottle. Drink from this water over the next few days, and it is said that miracles will unfold.
