MAY WE BUILD AND NURTURE WRITING THEOLOGIANS FROM AFRICA I don't know if other biblical-theological authors-writers in Africa have had my experience, but let me share mine. When I started writing, I pursued several publishers from our continent- some from my country and others outside the country but still in Africa. All of them turned me down. I tried again and again but was either dismissed or was given a cold ear. I decided that I'll keep on writing and just give out my PDF books for free. But I also discovered that some of those who could be rightly considered "pillars" of the the church would either dismiss my PDF books or would not care about encouraging others to read them or give them out. There are times that I would directly send these books to these pillar men that I highly honored and respected- just to hear their thoughts and comments so as to improve my writing- most of them would not even respond to say that they have received the book. The few that responded would never get back to you again. Surprisingly these same publishers and pillars will with a fanatic excitement publish, print, translate, distribute, recommend and promote books by theologians from the West. Could they be doing this for the money? Maybe involving oneself with books from the West has dollars attached to it? I don't know. Or is it that we think we cannot have anonymous brothers and sisters in our continent contribute to the global theological conversations? That we think that it is only men from the West or East who can do this? I rejoice and rest in the LORD's sovereignty, providence and timing but I still think that this is a very immature and stupid culture. We can do better. Let's encourage those anonymous brothers and sisters who are, though feebly, trying to contribute to the global theological conversation and speak contextually to the biblical-theological issues of our day. That way, we will build an army of theologians from Africa for our and future generations to benefit from.
